Why do you even go to Petco? In ref to teacups......errrrr. My mother and my father had lost their companion spitz at 14 yrs old.My parents are very elderly and my father has Altzheimers.I had the perfect gsd for them.OMG..they purchased a tea cup male.Shit cant even spell the breed Chiahuha and then they fell in love with a female. If I had been there..I would have choked the people that sold and took advantage of my parents. Now these two may have pups. What can I say..I sure wish I had more control over my parents. In ref to the workers at a petco etc..They are not trained..just wait on customers and basically earn just above minimum wage.

I take my dogs there strictly for exposure, I rarely spend money there. The sliding doors, the floor, the people, the smells, the noises. Good for puppies and good for proofing.

On a funnier note- I was there a few years ago with one of my girls and there was a beginner class gathering. I saw a young wolfhound puppy, now I LOVE wolfhounds, put my dog on a down stay about 10 feet back, walked up, and asked if I could pet it. As I was chatting with the lady, a man with a golden puppy, staring at my dog, walks up to me and says, "Wow, that's amazing how your dog is just staying like that! Will our dogs learn that?" Now of course I'm thinking not at PetSmart you won't, but all I could come up with was, "oh, I don't know, I don't train my dog here".

I was also at a PetCo with one one of my girls who has ZERO interest in making doggie friends. A lady had her dog on a retractable lead pulling her from down the aisle and around the corner, in my dog's face. I stepped away asked my dog to heel so we could move away from the dog, at which point the lady and walked up and said, "Oh, they can't say hi?", to which I replied, "No, I'm sorry, she's training and isn't allowed to play". She looks at me just astonished and goes over to the corner where the class was taking place. A few minutes later, I was going down that aisle and happened to pass the class in progress( about15' away"). EVERY dog lost it's mind and started barking at my dog, the owners had no control, the "trainer" had no control, and they were all glaring at me.  I over heard the lady from before telling someone quite indignantly "...wouldn't let her dog play!"

I giggled all the way home.

GSDguy08- I have also been told told that my GSDs aren't purebred because of "the white hair on their back". They of course, each have a bitch stripe and some ticking around their neck and shoulders, like most showline bitches. People also ask constantly if they are belgian shepherds. Look at my girl in my avatar, is that a belgian head to you?!

I have had several GSD American lines breeders tell me my GSD's weren't purebred because their backs were too level, and their bums too high! (And, of course, they didn't walk on their hocks...  )

They especially said this about my rescue, Tasha, so I started to doubt. One day we were at Jungle Cat Word in Ontario, formerly Havelberg Dog Acadamy, and we asked the owner there what he thought. Wolfgang used to train German police dogs, and has many years experience in the breed. He said, "She looks like the real old-fashioned German Shepherd we used to have in Germany after the war."

Oops, small boo-boo. It's Wolfram Klose, and Havelberg is still in operation! I thought he closed it down to concentrate on Jungle Cat World.

I keep thinking about that guy sucking from those nursing bottles . At first I thought about interrupting the conversation and telling him that it is possible to sex a pup at birth, but I suddenly came to my senses and kept my big bazoo buttoned for a change. You can't fix stupid........
