This is crap: "(1) USA may not be able to sustain the loss of entries/income and (2) there will be no significant changes until the SV itself and its "good-old-boy" club of judges is motivated to change and accept responsibility."

The SV has been working to effect change. And, in every single SV judge we have had here in the last 4 years, they have demonstrated a commitment to those changes AND ENFORCED THE RULES AS THEY ARE. I believe it is a convenient excuse to say it is the fault of the SV. It is the lack of leadership in the USA that is the problem here. We have been and continue to be behind the curve.

It never works to tip toe around change. Just make it and in this case, all that takes is enforcing the rules. Putting videos on their website demonstrating correct and not correct work would be a huge start. Making sure again that people had access to good helpers and trainers who could help them achieve these performance goals would help as well.

As for those who have not signed or said anything here, it is exactly because if they think they can get something by remaining silent, they will. I know and you know and they know who they are. There is about as much integrity in some who post here as a thief in a bank at night. Those who do speak out will pay for it. Those who don't speak out have ulterior motives for not doing so, try to convince the rest of us that change is best made by us remaining silent, or, in some cases, they simply don't give a damn. For many of the members of USA, the latter is true.

When standards must be set or met, setting the bar requires guts. Unfortunately, few have guts.

Amen, Hodie.

Louise, have you gone and got yourself in that mod queue once again? You will soon hold a board record. Bad girl...........

Blitzen: Louise, have you gone and got yourself in that mod queue once again?

Nope--not me--once was enough--I mind my P's and Q's.

Actually, I was remiss in my post above. I talked with two RBW's (on the BAC)--rather than RD's.

I took part in the BAC meeting several weeks ago.  There were several of us who really wanted to see something hapen and there will be further discussion of this as well as some other items that the NBW wants addressed.

I have to say that not one person from my region has contacted me about this...not one.  I see several on these boards but for the most part, Mid Central is pretty darn quiet.  Is the dissatisfaction limited to those few of us whe are on these internet roooms?

Is Mid Central too laid back to get fired up over anyhthing?

Are we all so freaking hard to get along with that we don't want to talk to each other?

I don't know what the deal is in this region, so I have to imagine that the Mid Central people here are the only ones who care that much.

Lorri,

What are your thoughts as to what may or may not come of the meetings? Anything you can share? Sorry to put you on the spot, but you have responded several times to inquiries about the BAC.

I think it is rather interesting that you haven't been contacted by anyone in your region. Pardon my ignorance, but is your region mostly show people or a good mix of show and work?  I ask, because it seems like many of the show people are satisfied with USA not following its own rules, as I would say is evidenced by the names on the petition. There are a limited number of show names on the petition (Bravo for them!!!).

I don't talk to people in elected positions in USA anymore because it is a waste of time. Bylaws are not enforced so why should anything else be?

My feelings here are nothing against Lorri personally as I don't know her. However, my group has experienced subtle and not so subtle punishment because of my/our stance on issues. So we stay out of the politics, have fun with our dogs and forget all the rest. That does not mean however than any one of us cannot have and write a strong opinion on the travesty of the Sieger Show protection work.

The fact that I do not speak with my "representatives" is that they do not, in fact, represent me or the average "Joe" or "Josephine" in this sport in my opinion. And that is part of what is seriously wrong about this organization. EVERYONE should have a vote, not just some who don't always fairly reflect the feelings of the membership. The excuse for not representing us is always that every club should send a member to the regional and national meeting. It simply is not possible to do that, for a variety of reasons and especially in a small club simply trying to bring quality judges in for trials, having to pay literally thousands of dollars each year to bring in helpers, and pay dues to an organization that does nothing for us to begin with. Money does not grow on trees and many also have families and business and other commitments that must come first. That does not mean we should not have an opinion and be able to express it.

For what it is worth, in the past, I have not only called, but written national and regional officers on a variety of topics and most of the time, received no response. So frankly, I don't waste my time as I have none to waste. Again, this issue before us is a no brainer. Long, behind closed door discussions, or phone calls need not be made to resolve this. Making excuses and saying it is the fault of the SV is pure crap.

What needs to be made is a commitment on the part of the organization to see that standards are enforced. When one of my dogs does not meet the standards, because I have quality judges who uphold the standards, we fail or are rated accordingly. What needs to be made is a commitment on the part of the organization to see that everyone has an "illustrated guide" by video, for example, as to what that standard is when it comes to protection work for a SS. And finally, what needs to be made is a commitment on the part of the organization to see that the clubs have access to education and helpers and other  tools needed to be doing something other than paying meaningless dues that go for a variety of expenses, most of which do not even remotely benefit the average member or the clubs that pay them.

My message here is the same as it has been all along and as is written several times above. So any board member, regional officer etc., can take this as my input. Where will it go? I know, basically in one eye and out the other.

by Eric Eisenberg on 28 May 2008 - 11:05

I have not read the entire thread. It seems to me the Sieger show problem is a symptom of a much larger issue. The issue is with the leadership or lack there of the organization. The leadership does not follow any rules!  The leaders of the organization simply make up there own rules as they go to serve there own needs. the membership needs to step up and make sure rules are in place and enforced equally across the board.

Remember if your sick of all this it's time for a change. It is an election year vote out the good old boys who are ruining the organization lets re-organize and make positive changes.

It is my understanding that there were 14 males at the 2007 German Sieger  Show who were given special mention for their outstanding bitework.  It is a new honor started last year.  Perhaps if people want change they should pay attention to what dogs make this list and use them as studs for their females instead of patroninzing the flavor of the month especially those with questionable character.
