How Cool, I didin't know Rinus had Zasko stored when he was here! I think we are going to see more people in Europe bring their dogs here and get them collected as they can make bloodlines available to us more easily that way, and get stud fees they might otherwise not get...good idea...Jackie

Hi

It seems GS Mom, has heard of  Rinus, A small breeding kennel and outstanding results from its :Pups

I can vouch 100% for this Kennel and Rinus, as he is not only a friend of Mine he is also the person who helps us train our two Dogs at the two Clubs we train in, a Brilliant trainer he is too not only of Dogs but the owners too.

Plus he is a  well reputed and renowned  SchH Judge in Europe and the USA and Canada, even in Australia

He will be in the USA in early May working at a Presigest Trial and Competition

Problem is we will have to manage without him, but must not be greedy

We tried this a few years ago.  The cost was immense.

In addition to stud fee it was nearly $800 to ship the liquid nitrogen dewar full of semen to the US, and another couple hundred to ship the empty dewar back to Europe.  Nearly $1000 for progesterone and LH testing, and having to board the bitch at the vet clinic for a week so blood draws could be done daily.  $300 for the surgical AI implantation.  And no puppies.

For what we spent on that, we probably could have taken a week off work, hopped on a plane with the dog, and flown with her to Europe to do the breeding naturally.

And probably with better results as frozen AI breedings have a much lower success rate than natural breedings, due to the very short timeframe the semen will live after thawing.

Thank's for all the responses. Sounds like way to much risk and expense.

I don't have time to read the rest, so sorry if I repeat.

As far as frozen from Germany...I hope money is not an option.  Someone from South Africa inquired about frozen from my stud, my specialist said it would cost in the neighborhood of $800 USD just for shipping with no guarantees it would not get held up somewhere (the tank only keeps the straws frozen for 10 or 11 days, then on his end it would cost him around the same just to surgically implant it into his female.   Plus then the stud fee.

Frozen breeding is risky if the female's owner is not using a specialist well experineced in handling frozen semen.  It is a delicate process and the females levels must be tested frequently from almost the beginning of her heat because pinpointing the exact point of ovulation is a must since the thawed sperm has reduced motility and does not live as long as the fresh.  If not done properly the failure rate is high.

My specialist claims to have a very good success rate, they've said the majority of bitches that did not concieve proved later to be sterile.

Regards,

Melanie

Hi blueshep

The Frozen Sperm of ZASKO is already stored in the USA. Look at the website, www.daelenberghutte.be

Zasko was bred in Germany

Steve, I have quite a selection of stud dogs to use in the US. I have been watching this male over in Holland and I would like to breed one of my bitches to this dog. I would like to keep a couple pups for myself and I have another person that wants a male out of that breeding. I think I will check into flying over with my female and do the breeding so I actually see the stud dog. I have know idea what the cost will be but I will look into it. I will take a look at the web site you recommended. Thank's for your input.

I am in the processing of sending semen on a male I own (non-GSD) to someone who is doing a breeding in Sweden.  Shipping from the US to Sweden (and the return shipping of tank) is going to cost that breeder around 1200.00 USD.  Of course, that is more of a bargain for them versus the buyer being in the US as you are asking since the Euro is so much stronger than the dollar.
