DOH!

by gsdtwo on 19 April 2012 - 17:04

WOW..im not saying black and tan should be the only colour i my self had a bi coloured...and an all black...i like sable gsds but the point im making is that now a days the variations in the breed are too much. you look at a dalmatian you say oh it's a dalmatian, you look at a labrador oh its a larador, you look at a sable gsd oh is it a wolf hybrid, you look at a roached back gsd oh is this dog born with an abnormality....im not againt sable gsds its just an EXAMPLE. Why did they change the breeds name to american white shepherd rather then a white gsd?

Bob , the original Rin TinTin  was a sable

this is something the germans are good in , I would call it PROPAGANDA , the clubs allways promote pictures of showlinedogs, ther was a full page article in the biggest dutch newspaper about a K9 unit at amsterdam airport where they only have sable shepherds and malinois , and the article showed pictures of showline shepherds , talking about misleading the people

gsdtwo that makes more sense. I think there was a thread a couple months ago (and before and before and before) about combinging showlines and working lines into one dog again. Not likely to happen.

When I look at a motorcycle, I could say the same thing.... It's a blue one, or red one etc... Not it's a Harley, Honda, Suzuki etc...
Does that mean there are too many different types out there? No! It means that everyone doesn't know everything about everything!

I personally LOVE sables. I'm not offended when Joe Public doesn't know what they are... I do my best to educate whenever possible.
That's how we learn folks! It's irritating when Job Public tells me I don't know what I'm talking about, but you can't educate those who
wish to remain in the dark or believe they already know everything. I've had just as many people ask me what my black and bi-color
GSDs are mixed with, or ask what breed they are as I have had ask me about my sables.

Off my soap box now!

melba, but when someone comes along saying "sables" are ruining the breed?  When many of the "founding dogs" were sables......

Sables are not ruining the breed. Corupt organizations only in it for the money and not the heath and temperament of the breed are ruining the breed.
Bought titles, putting up dogs from big name kennels, registering anything with 4 legs, a tail, and a heartbeat (heartbeat optional) is ruining the breed,
not the color of the dog.

gsdguy08 WHEN DID I SAY SABLE GSDS ARE RUINING THE BREED! melissa another point of looking at it is that suzuki, honda and harley are breeds rather then types of the same breed.  I LIKE SABLE GSDS. another argument can be is that while many coat colours were used to FIND\CREATE the breed they were not THE BREED.

by gsdtwo on 19 April 2012 - 18:04

why is the white gsd now considerd as white american shepherd.

by gsdtwo on 19 April 2012 - 18:04

all this being said, i am not a gsd expert.lol
