Brittany, My dog's dam's name is Unna Vom Wiesenring. EPI is a disease that is very debilitating not only to the dog but very difficult for the owner to deal with. My dog is 16 months old and I've already spent quite a few sleep deprived nights. There have been several times at 3:00 A.M. when I felt like calling the breeder to see how his night was going... It isn't easy to stabalize these dogs because of their digestive issues. Since both the sire and dam must carry the gene in order for a pup to get EPI, it seems that good breeders would want to know which dogs carry it to avoid these breedings. The EPI database is a great idea and in the best interest of this wonderful breed.

Issues other breeders experience, relayed to me in confidence, STAY confidential. There's enough finger-pointing floating around the 'net these days. Far be it from me to add more. Sorry. I produced an EPI pup years ago from a female who had had 6 litters, She produced the one EPI pup in her final litter. The mother was 100% working lines, by Kasimir Bosen Nachtbarshaft, (Wanko Marraue lines) went to Racker Itztal (Seffe/Bernd Lierberg) Frei v.d. Gugge on the top. Can't remember her mother line and she isn't in the Db. Her name was Emma vom Gewolbe. I can't find the records of her litters at this moment. Good luck tracing EPI. It is NOT a simple auto-somal. People are trying to establish a dB to identify markers, but its going to be a long haul before we get enough useful data on file, and even then... SS
