I agree with everyone saying the Steelers beating the Patriots.  They will be fired up to beat Bill Belicheck who had to cheat the other times to beat them--this time he will have no cameras!!!!  GO STEELERS !!!!!

by p59teitel on 17 October 2007 - 12:10

Explain how film of defensive signals could have possibly led to the Steelers' special teams breakdowns or Kordell Stewart's lousy play in the 2001 AFC championship game.

Or the following from the 2004 AFC chamionship: Rodney Harrison's 87-yard interception return (after recognizing a TE route in the flat that the Steelers had already run twice), Branch's 60-yard TD reception (splitting double coverage - and if Brady knew ahead of time there would be double coverage, why would he throw into it?), or Givens' 9-yard TD catch after Brady saw the cornerback obviously set to cover a slant and changed the route.

The bottom line is that notwithstanding their complicated defensive schemes and zone blitzes, year after year the Steelers had retarded simple offensive game plans that were basically "run left, run right, oops it's 3rd-and-long so what do we do now?"  I think we had more plays in Pop Warner than the Steelers had.  The defense was always good enough for them to beat most teams, but when they'd run into a Belichick or Shanahan in the playoffs, they were toast.  It wasn't until Whisenhunt persuaded Cowher to let him take the diapers off of Roethlisberger in the 2005 playoffs that they got it done.  And even then, they basically beat Cincy because Palmer got his knee wrecked early, then almost blew the Colts game when Cowher foolishly put the offense back into its shell after going up a couple of scores  - and at the end, Vanderjagt followed Bettis' choke with an even worse one on the game-tying field goal attempt.  And let's not even talk about SB XL, which was just about the worst-played SB I've ever seen - I mean, the winning QB had a 22 passer rating?  You can thank Seattle's even more massive choke for that one.

Also, to compare this defense to the Steel Curtain is an absolute side-splitter.  There's no one on the defensive line who comes close to Mean Joe, Greenwood or Dwight Holmes, and the linebackers are good as a unit but there's no one there today who is fit to wash Lambert or Ham's jock.  And while Polamalu is a special player so were Donnie Shell and Mel Blout, and your best cornerback is DeShea Townsend.  Heck, in terms of personnel this isn't even the Steelers' best defense in the last three years.  Don't let early stats compiled against bad competition fool you.

Sparrow- I second that with the block of cheese. lol

triodgirl- There's no way I'm ever wearing some cheese as a bra. lol

IluvmyGSD- did you say you need a greek translator?? lol  It JUST so happens that I speak Greek Fluently. Oppa Steelers!

p59- The previous years don't count- we were just warming up for that superbowl win. lol  The team is strong, playing better than we did back then and we had Cowher.  I think the new coach is doing a great job despite the skeptism when he was first hired.  You might be surprised when we play the Patriots.

What I want to know is, will Eric Mangini regret he accused the New England Patriots of spying on his defensive coaches? those accusations caused a lot of trouble for a team that is headed by a coach that has been heralded as the best of the decade so far.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell investigated the accusations, and found the Patriots guilty of "spying," and punished the team with fines to coach Bill Belichick ($500,000), owner Bob Kraft (250,000), and will take 1-3 draft picks next April.

This coming Sunday, will Belichick want some revenge and cut loose the big dogs with instructions to run up the score? In the past, everytime I predict something I get bit in the but. I have a feeling however that the score will cover "The Over" in a big way and favor The Pats.

Abhay, if he wants revenge he will have to wait until 12/29/07, because that is when they are playing the Jets.

They are playing Miami this Sunday!

Ninja, I am a Retard. For some reason my pea brain keeps thinking it was the Dolphins and not the Jets who accused New England lol. I would have been front row on the couch watching the game and thinking I was watching the revenge game.

agar....

EXACTLY!

Cowher's term is over.  He made some big coaching mistakes that cost us games we easily could have/should have won.

Mike Tomlin is in the house now and ...well, just wait and see.

Teams change all the time...

...too bad Belichick doesn't do the same...that damned hoodie must need a good washing by now!

There is no way that the Squeelers beat the Pats!  You are eating too much cornbread, blinded by all the home cooking.

The Squeelers were lucky to steel Super Bowl XL.  If they beat the Pats, you can send me a pair of Steeler Speedos and I will post a video of me runnung down my road in them!
