@ Duke...three thumbs up !!!!

A facility for a U.S. government agency had used German Shepherds for many years. They changed their policy to use non-threatening dogs. The female german shorthaired pointer the agency wanted never did well in training and was pulled not too long after it went to work. They were then provided with a male terrier mix that they were happy with (and was a better worker) - wiry fawn colored hair, beard, floppy ears. What the decision makers didn't know was the terrier part was Black Russian and the "mix" was Malinois. Usually the higher ups who are in charge of making those type of stupid decisions don't know a thing about dogs/dog training. The handler at the facility missed having a GSD as he thought they worked the best for what he needed.

there are currently many breeders trying to breed for this new fashion, recently seen

lab X mal mixes,

labXpittbull mixes,

malinois X jagdterrier mixes ,

mix GSD X pointer

etc etc

still will not be able to provide desired numbers

@ bladeedge, I have been offered quite some dogs from your area, only to find many of them having bad xrays, especially the spaniels

its going to be a bumpy ride Wink Smile

Yes Duke. Anything that's newly introduced is not going to be easy . I think in most floppy ear dogs hips and health score have been over looked as most are family pets . It's now starting to move in a new direction I would say now because there is value in them now . It's the other way around with gsd health and hips and elbows are taking very seriously by breeders who are serious about strengthen the breed over here 😉

I have two smooth Fox terriers here I imported from Czech, duke.was thnking a cross on these gsd females would produce tireless, hunt crazy, incorruptible focus and solid nerves, athletic, healthy dogs. The fox terriers from Czech have to have a hunting title before breeding...these terriers don't have any quit in them ( they are like my smooths from thirty years ago)

Not to worry folks ! There are some indications US Police may switch to a (naturally) drop-eared, lighter, K9 for apprehension of criminals, bombers and illegal immigrants. Boxers. Which have had their own Schutzhund trials for years !   /s

The problem is that bureaucrats with no clue about dogs are in positions of making decisions about what dogs to use and when. As Duke has alluded, the laws of supply and demand will balance out the poor decision-making of the paper-pushers.

Except that some of us are not so very sure these ARE 'wrong decisions' by 'paperpushers'. I love the gsd, that's why I've always kept them and worked with them most of my life ... but I do not have rose-tinted glasses about the breed, I accept that there are some jobs and situations where gsds may not do a 'worse' job, but they can be less 'suitable'. This trend has worked very well for the UK Police and Border Force for some years now. (Evidenced by huge finds of smuggled drugs, weapons, etc). Why knock it just because we are peeved they no longer want 'our' breed ???

LOL mutter, you are wrong and you know it, dont think I need to explain now do I Shades Smile
