Had it in one GS at around 7 mo to 12 mo of age. Can’t quite remember.

Could be from food that had too much calcium for pup causing fast growth. He was fed royal canine at the time. Long time ago....

Or - and - could be both....could come from too much activity like jumping from heights and landing on front feet.

It went away without further treatment. Lasted maybe 2 months, but not bad.
So at the time, I did not do much about it, except go to the vet to get the diagnosis. And kept the dog calm, no jumping or quick movements at play.
Once it was gone and never returned. Dog lived to a good old age with no other issues.

@Appleboat: only had one case of Pano, in a young neutered male GSD, fed on kibble (I think it was Royal Canin at the time*) same as the rest of the kennel, including others of his litter run on into adulthood. Was working on medium protein levels at the time, given the energy expenditure of the dogs. No obvious indication of dietary involvement. Deliberately never given too much calcium. This same dog died youngish, of a bone tumour, even though he had been recovered from the Pano for a couple of years and more. Who knows ?

Well we know royal Canin is SHIT.  and I do not want to cushion that statement;  it is crap.  Sooo  it is still out there feeding crap to dogs.    What is it going to take?

So probably no connection to raw.
Rocky was pretty incapacitated by it, but he is kinda dramatic. I stepped on him once when he was about 10 weeks old and he just flopped over like he was dead and wouldn't move....for about 5 minutes...just followed me with his eyes.

Yeah, you say that Nan; but please remember I was feeding the same, or age related, RC to a kennel of about 20 dogs at the time, and Tango was the only young 'un (including two others of his litter) who got Pano. So while its an interesting coincidence that both mine and Jesse's dogs had Pano while on RC, not entirely sure we can use that to label it crap ...

JesseJones-- when I saw your pic back on page 1 of the thread, the chicken feet reminded me of human hands (I never saw them like that before)... of course if they were burglar hands, the it would be self serve for gsd. Lol

What about getting a home freeze dryer so storage space isn't a problem?

I know, they take getting used to! They do creep me out, I’ll admit to that!

They also have long sharp fingernails which I don’t like to feed the dogs, so I cut them off. AND THAT really creeps me out even more, because they do look like little human fingers. So I kind of squint and cross my eyes while doing it, so that I can’t see them clearly.

But the dogs like them well enough...they have a lot of glucosamine and chondroitin for the dogs own joint health (and excellent to add to your soup stock to thicken/gelatin).

They are not a lot of hard raw bone, but have lots of tendons and Cartilage...more like a crunchy dog potatoe chip than a raw meaty bone. They are a great source of protein and bone though.

 

Do you think it is safe to feed raw or even cooked pork meat to dogs? My vet told never to feed pork to my dogs as it may have some virus harmless to humans but deadly to canids (causes meningitis and encephalitis).
I feed them all other meats,raw and cooked, but I stay away from pork, although I would very much like to give them some pork ribs (very cheap in my country and very good for bones).
