As someone who has shown in both AKC and SV style, I will say that SV style is more physically demanding. I will also say that SV style has a dog gait in a way that is in no way related to any sort of work that makes any sort of sense for them to move that way. They're GSDs, not friggin' Malamutes. I don't know why they insist on making them haul into a collar like a poorly trained dog dragging their owner down the street.

I am a fullblown AKC snob in that regard.

Conversely, I don't like the racing that tends to go on in my preferred venue. I buck the trend as an owner handler that doesn't require my dogs to show way out in front of me. I show in dresses and pant suits. How I feel on that really depends on the day and the weather :p

AKC venue is definitely not less stressful than SV for the humans. People are equally insane, it just manifests in a different way LOL

As for furries, they have been around for ever and freakin' ever. They aren't new. They're also not what people often think they are. Bronies on the other hand...we do not talk about Bronies for the most part.

BTW, Bavarian, since you seem to feel the need to be snide:

Royal Canin Cluster (formerly Eukanuba), which is used as a qualifying show to attend Crufts. It's an international show as well, and there are many foreign entries.

A great many. They're called clusters, and run for 4-6 days. Royal Canin was one of those shows. It was an 18 hour drive one way with a van full of dogs and we showed 5 days in a row with two different breeds. It was friggin' exhausting.  I really could have done without the blowout on a highway the middle of the night in a vehicle loaded with animals and equipment. 

Right after that, my friend (who resides in FL) did another week long circuit in Brooksville.

We show at the Canfield cluster in August, which is a four day circuit that is luckily local...with the specialties held, it's actually six shows in four days. The New Castle circuit is in May, that's 4 days long, plus there are GSD specialties to attend for that as well.

But please, continue to regale me on how much you know about the AKC show cycle :)

I don't know where you got the idea that I quit herding?  I did and have said no such thing.

Oh man, I forgot about the Cleveland Crown Classic that happens in December. That's four days long. Novi, MI finished up today, that's another 4 dayer. The Rose City Classic in Portland is a 5 dayer. Mmm, the Raleigh and Lexington circuits are coming up. Those are 5 day circuits.

*giggles* But what do I know? I just spend my time at home, sitting on the couch, waiting for the next weekend circuit to show up. Not like I need to pick up dogs to be road worked, or plan my schedule for the year, or figure out who needs more muscle building and who needs more endurance work. Constantly evaluating diets and condition, keeping coat quality high while still letting them be dogs, not presenting them to the public looking like fleabitten coyotes.

And scheduling travel? Pshhh, whatevs. It's all a piece of cake.

In all due respect, I find it quite funny that Bavarian thinks shows only run during the weekends, and that show people and their dogs sit around twiddling their thumbs (or dews) on the weekdays. I also think it ironic when BW argues that it is unfair for other members to judge Schutzhund without fully branching into it, but that they continually bastardized a sport they obviously know absolutely nothing about.

As for me being a blind follower, that's a sad assumption. Previously, I believed the sport had little to no merit other than to fuel the ego of those involved. But, I actually got involved through a sort of accident, and now I believe there is a little merit in the sport of conformation. However, most AKC people fail to apply it the the purpose of the breeds involved. In my breed, many AKC people will tell me all day their blowdried fuzzball can herd, but they rarely venture out to do it themselves, even when invited with open arms. As for Schutzhund, I've had no problems with my local Schutzhund club from the limited interaction I've had. Considering the fact I brought a dq'd colored dog to their training club to view their programme and still felt welcome, perhaps my local club is an outlier.

I am happy to say that I know a couple of people with blowdried fuzzballs in your breed that do indeed go herding with their animals :)

Oh, he's too busy hanging onto the leash of his dog while it chews on a sleeve, to notice what goes on in the world around him that he's not directly involved with. If he doesn't participate, it doesn't exist, so he can make up whatever he likes about it.

Xeph, if Bav could read, he'd maybe know about such things - but he is so convinced people can get nothing out of what anyone else writes, he is content to live in his own little world of ignorance.

Looking forward to the day when he goes into hospital for surgery and insists whoever performs his operation got through their entire medical degree without ever picking up a textbook.  LOL.
