Mithuna - you can see pics of my dog on his page, in the photo gallery (lots of pics) and on working-dog eu. When weighed for his 2 yr. OFA x-rays, he was 68 lbs. I think he's maybe about 70 lbs. now, but he's not a big GSD. He is athletic like a Mal, and super fast. I am glad he's not a big dog, as his size suits my size and my more limited mobility since I have arthritis. It's easier to have control (physically) of a smaller dog than a big dog, at least for me.

I happen to like bigger and physically substantial dogs, and that is my preference. Look at V rated Drago Vom Patriot he is 98 pounds. SEEMS HIS WEIGHT DID NOT FUNCTIONALLY DISABLE HIM FROM REACHING THE 2012 LGA.

This not just a question for breeders, non breeders determine unfortunately what gets bred, most breeders ime are trend followers.

99-88=10 lbs over the upper limit weight for males.
I can name many other well known large dogs : Dasty Von der Berger Hochberg, Mambo Z PS, Norbo Ben Ju

Some part of our logic on functionality is very distorted.
Why would an 87 lb female not be able to functionally perform just as well as an 88 lb male. Can some one give a reason based on functionality as the proud persons with their 70"s lb dogs are suggesting?
This is funny if a male dog is 88 lbs ( within the standard ) he is functionally ok , but if a female weighs 87 lbs she is not functional. I think we are confusing a subjective aesthetic argument here with a functional one.

No you are confusing aesthetic blah, blah with having no clue what athleticism is, ie no reference point.
Drago is a big dog that is athletic. nothing in his ipo work demands any partucularly challenging athleticism...that's just IPO.
He may be better than what his work allows, IPO is an incredibly low bar to measure athleticism.
Drago is one of the better ones in that context.

you might recall that I just lost the dog in my
profile icon, at the end of the summer.
Taz was the last GSD I had access to or care of;
I will get another dog in due course, but it will once
again be a rescue or other 'unwanted'.
I am almost 62 yrs old and crippled with arthritis, so
my next dog will not be a puppy and will not be com-
peted with in any variety of dog sport; but I have not
always been an infirm pensioner !
But for the record: Taz was just too tall for the (UK)
Standard, at 66.5 cm. He weighed 37 kilos most of
his adult life, until a few months before his end, when
he dropped weight a bit - when he died he was 12.5
years old. He is roughly 2 years in the icon photo.
I'll add the conversions in for you to inches and pounds
in a following post. I am sure that the photo is not so
small you cannot see that he is neither under- nor
over- weight.
He was preceded by a bitch Vida who was exactly at the
middle of the Standard range of bitch heights; she
weighed 27 kilos all her (also long) adult life. These two
were the most recent GSDs wholly owned by me; but
both my mentor and my last employer had kennels (one
a Show Kennel, the other a private Security setup) so,
even without adding in a few GSD like the 2 property
guards and their litters that I was heavily involved with
as a teenager (and disregarding all my other experiences eg
with different breeds as a Dog Walker, plus my competing
with Vida in Obedience) I have had some 50 or so GSDs,
from both sets of 'lines', through my hands, over the past
approx. 40 years.
Me and this site do not get on well with my trying to post
photos / videos / links etc (as I have often mentioned in
posts) - my bad, I came to the technology late in life,
plus I do not trust enough to lift my ad blockers and security
programs, which certainly doesn't help. I have no purpose
for social media. I do not need to keep telling & showing
the world what I am up to.
