Segregation has never been good for any population. Having a separate forum for show and/or working is NOT going to stop the discussions or change how those discussions occur. Looking into my crystal ball, I can tell you exactly what is going to happen....new folks will come to the forum, as they always have, and they will ask the same newbie questions they always have, and the response is going to be "go to the show lines forum. Are people so naive to think that by segragating a population you will "protect" those "others" or make things more pleasant? Segragation will not promote anything more than increased separation. If we can't unify the breed, then we should at least begin to promote unification of those in the breed!

It is too bad, the pdb feels the need to further promote segregation. I figure if I need a forum that caters to the show lines, I can always visit GSD World. Until that time, my show lines and I will refrain from the show line forum. Afterall, if I can't handle a little GSD snobbery, I certainly can't handle the "pressures of the show ring".

We are not telling any member that because you have show lines you can only comment or visit in the show line forum. Nor are we telling working lines to only visit or post in the sport/work forum.

All this does is give show folks a place to talk about their dogs, without being hi-jacked by others as much, because we still see people disagreeing on the different GSD lines. We are not saying show line people will be given any special treatment.

To me segregation would be, when you sign in, you had to pick show or working and then when you make that selection you do not see the other forum. We are not trying to do that at all and we think all members should browse and learn from both show and sport GSD lovers.

Segregation is forced separating and no one is being forced to do anything, but have respect for each other and to be civil. Post in any forum you like. Enjoy them all.

GSD, I understand what you guys are trying to do, I just don't think it's the greatest idea to have all these sub-forums with the exception of OT. The neat part of about this messageboard is that there AREN'T a ton of little sub-forums like most dog boards. You could do all your browsing in one place and it was very time efficient. That has been slowly changing.

If you love show lines as I do, you need to learn to let the snarky comments roll of your back, because if you can't handle it on the internet, boy, are you in for a surprise in the real world. I'm surprised show line people cried to the mods about this. I sure wasn't one of them. If you want a "civilized" discussion on show lines, go to a show, join a closed FB group, go to one of the many fluffy, placating messageboards out there and stop ruining this one. I agree that this board is becoming too "PC".

I know over the years things have become very ugly over various things, but you could count on being able to come here and tell it like it is. It's unfortunate the crybabies are going to turn it into every other cookie cutter message board.

Either way, quiting hating on the mods, guys. They're trying to please everyone, which is simply impossible, but I commend them for trying.

No one complained when we added the training forum. There are forums out there with 10s of sub-forums and we have 3 sub-forums and that is somehow bad?

I understand your position and we have changed the name of those forums to try and not form a split in the members. The very split that many organizations promote.

All sub-boards do is to encourage more people to comment.

Do you guys ever get tired of answering the same questions over and over? Well it does not surprise me considering about 50% of the GSD folks post on the general forum. So, things get scattered and are harder to find. If we do a better job of categorizing and a better job of placing the threads in the right forum it would make finding specific information much easier. If I want info on training why should I have to sift through 10s of cute picture threads? If I want info on showing why should I have to sort through 100's of  work/sport threads?

I can get rid of these forums but the next change that comes along people will complain over it as well. We would not even have OT had I not made a stand against a few mods because believe me, some of the second set of mods were dead set against it, but I went ahead and pushed it through because I could see a need and so far it has not caused the problems the nay sayers predicted.

We have to change folks because if we stay the same we would grow stagnant. Look around on the net and things change. Sites try and improve. Look at yahoo mail, it is in the process of changing all people over to the new mail, the change is hard to get used to but I realize those changes are needed to grow with an ever changing world.

Again, I understand the anguish and I see some may not accept this change but that can't stop us from trying to improve the site. If we become paralyzed with fear of change we could never grow this site or ourselves.

If members want only one forum that can be arranged but then I would expect the general forum to be used for general topics only and not breed specific topics. GSD people have a forum but somehow members can't hit it and we end up with another board that is all but a sub-forum of the GSD forum. So, I really do not see the problem after all the GSD posts have been split between forums since 2009 and people still go to general and comment on GSD topics. It will be the same with the other forums.
