Nona while I agree with you that using real names would be fine, and I do think it would cut down on a lot of the nonsense, I would never go so far as to suggest people must have something to hide if they don't want to use their real names, that smacks of McCarthyism, and is not fair or true.

Real names via credit card registration is not going to happen. It doesn't on other hobby messageboards, and there is no particular reason for it to happen here now that the board is moderated and the most egregious poo-flinging is fairly quickly removed.

I noticed in one of your posts earlier you referenced me in your response to nona. I guess the post was deleted. First, I also belong to several other forums where I use my real name and I have no issue doing it. I have posted my name, address and telephone number on this forum several times. Using real names would be fine with me on this forum would be a vast improvement. It doesn't require credit card authorization either and could be easily implemented as many other forums do. On the forums that both Sue and I are on they have never needed a credit card. If that is not the direction this forum is going to take, that is fine with me. I also really do not consider my PD a "local" PD, it is not as big as NY or LA but we do have several hundred sworn officers. It is one of the larger PD's in my state.
You response of defense attorneys using on line statements against officers is accurate. I do not generally say anything that I care if brought up in court or anywhere else. To that point we have a certain poster on this thread that has contacted members employers to complain about what was posted on the PDB. I think that was childish and disgraceful, I was warned about the poster. But, I am not concerned for myself, the PDB is the least of my concerns or worries.
Don, your suggestion of a "training topic" message board would be a good addition. The other suggestion of who's on line is also a very good idea. If there was an area designated for training I might get the urge to start posting again. I hope the change of the TOS and some of the suggestions makes this into a better forum for those who use it.

Jim, don't take that as a slamdunk against you. Please don't take it that way. There are just some things that city, county and even state LEOs are allowed to do that others are not. And I feel the same as you about the current state of things. Besides the usual one-liner, I find it hard to get inspired on here lately. Very little in terms of substance. But relax!!! I'm sure a thread on "civil" will pop up in a day or two.
