Just another thought - what about automatic endorsements being placed on all puppies at registration? It wouldn't stop the determined BYB but it would stop the random pet owners just deciding it would be "nice to have a litter". How many times have I heard that!!!

I like the idea of automatic endorsement. I have to say that out of the 5 most recent GSD's I've had only 2 have been endorsed.
This is something that the KC could do across all breeds - endorse all - after all its relatively easy to get it lifted and it proves committment to the dog and breed with getting appropriate health checks undertaken.

My interest is on the GSD not working or show defined the GSD when sch came available in the uk i aspired to qualify my show dogs to be more in line with the SV system, i then prefered the working and dedicated myself to it, i have over the years thought lomg and hard how the GSD in the UK can emulate the SV system (its not perfect but it works)
My suggestions would be
The GSDL BAGSD and Breed Council meet anD AGREE criteria for a two tier pedigree registration system
The base tier as today ie registered from registerd parents with NO conditions
The HIGHER tier we ask the KC to recognise our criteria and when application is made and fits the agreed criteria they re register the aniaml concerned (maybe with a different colour cert) like in Germany
To further promote that the breed clubs actively promote and advertise the two teir system
All the above only promotes and does not FORCE change
You see i can be REASONable
I am not sure we would see many in the second tier (but i have 4 here that could comply)

I remember a true monster from the north PRESCOTIA CANTO sch111 many times with V in protection and tracking they dont make show dogs like that these days

other show bred dogs include
Dave Crawfords dog Karlo
and Gayvilles ASTI (BSA NATIONAL WINNER)
jIM JACKSON CODY SCH111 AND pOLICE DOG
C Bows Jeck (50 percent show)
There were loads back then but since Rummel went the breed effectively split to were it is today, if you look at the kennel names from the BZP and compare them with the Seigerhaupzuchta schae you will see hardly any represented at a decent level in both
PS I will not be making representation to the BC they would not listen

Hmmmmmmmm
Just out of interest does anyone now who on the Breed Council ACTIVELY promotes the GSD ie works and shows if there was one i would be up for sending my suggestions

Picking up on BEEPY'S comment re the german hip status of 'a' stamp fast normal, having attended several brilliant lectures given by Dr.Malcolm Willis (pioneer of the current hip scoring system ) I too was under the destinct impression that the 'a' stamp fast normal would certainly be well outside of our breed average hip score, in many cases by a quite considerable amount. If this is still the case could this be why certain self crowned 'top' breeders have of late taken to ONLY scoring their stock in Germany ?
if the dogs are going to be bred from in the UK, then a UK score they should have, mainly to conform to UK standards that are understood by the puppy buying public, why go abroad for something we already have in this country....ulteria motifs seem the ONLY reason, possibly adding to the reason that the breed mean average hasn't improved for decades ?????
