I don't think Dreamworks was talking 'bout a Shepherd.  The reason
Kitkat has yet to see a Blue GSD with CD alopecia is probably that
the condition IS extremely rare in GSDs [hence the conviction that
GSDs are not one of the breeds that get it.]  Does not mean it does
not exist.  Joni, you seriously think any of the sort of commercial breeders
who are selling GSDs as 'fluffy pretty-coloured pets' is gonna ADVERTISE
the presence of this condition (even if they noticed it) ?

I will look up the pedigree info on the allBlue GSD I mentioned working
with and see if I can publish anything on here;  but there are difficulties
because HE WAS NOT OWNED by me.  It also won't mean a lot to a USA
readership because most dogs used in the programme are a long way from
their German roots, and obviously not individual dogs whose names will have
made any impact on the Breed for other reasons.  But if KitKat has done
so much research into Blue 'lines' she may recognise some of them.  I will
check if that Kennel has anything listed on PDB, but I doubt it.

To be honest, I can't see any reason to assume this pups bare line is anything to do with alopecia, it looks like scarred skin and I suspect if he had not been blue, the question of alopecia would never have even arisen.  Be interesting to see what this looks like as he grows.

Linda,of course those breeders are not going to advertise they have it.
but than, It comes back to more that the cause is due to their breeding practice other than color itself...
which Is my point. Just because a dog is born blue, does not mean it is going to be plagued with health problems.
and that is the point i have been trying to make, for years!

Maybe his mamma scraped his scull during delivery and caused a scar. I've seen worse things on pups caused by mamma dog that made a permanent scar during delivery that, unless you knew at the time would not be able to tell how it got there. A big tado over nothing...it won't affect him unless people FOCUS on it.

Making a point that just because a(ny) dog is a Blue does not automatically
mean s/he is riddled with every problem going - or even ONE of them - is
admirable.

But it does not make any Blue dog we discuss on here have immunity from
having one or more of those conditions !   And what sounds very much like constant
refusal to accept that fact, ends up looking much the same as a denial that any
one thing could EVER be wrong with any particular Blue dog.

Linda, there is no denial that those issues exist. The problem comes from those that want to repeatedly claiming that blue dogs have more problems that just being the wrong color.
How many dogs that are correct in every other bit of the standard are plagued with health issues that are so much more problematic than bad hair.
How many people complain that dogs they got from top bloodlines have severe health issues...DM, mega E,bad hips, bad elbows, and on and on.
It annoys me,to no end, the die hard, blue dogs have 'cooties' due to their color that don't effect the dogs of proper color...
There is no German Shepherd,or any dog for that matter, that is immune to all health issues, But the color certainly don't make them more prone to them either....

Yeah but no one seems to be claiming that, on here [maybe in those PMs
and e-mails to Jen, but not on here.]  Nonetheless your chippy little posts
keep popping up as soon as someone dares to suggest something known
in Blue dogs might apply to some individual case under discussion.  They
don't sound like the overall  "Not all Blue dogs carry all defects";  instead they
sound like a rather petulant "Oh no it isn't !"
