What age do your pups leave at? - Page 8

I'm not a breeder but I've gotten my last two males (for SchH) both at 7 weeks and have not had any "fear periods" or anything like that.  Both were bomb-proof.

Some states have laws but these laws are not really there to protect dogs or set some sort of precedent about when is the correct age to let a puppy go, they are to attempt to control unregulated sales.  Many of these rules only apply to pet stores or puppy brokers.

 I think it's more that people have to label everything. I see "fear period" as being no different than some of the ridiculous "drive" terms. I have to laugh every time I hear a new "drive" that I've never heard of being discussed on animal planet. Too much time wasted on terminology and labeling and not enough time spent learning to read and work with your dog in parameters the DOG understands. I assure you, none of our dogs are concerned with "fear periods." They just interact with and react to their environment in the way nature dictates. It's up to us to communicate with them. 

I have never ever heard of any fear period, Probably made up by someone making things more than they are.
The Pup is best away from its Mother and Litter mates to the new Human owner as soon as it can happen once you interact with the Pup it will look only to you for its needs.
It is you who are going to raise it possibly for the rest of its life, not its mother who will soon discard it in a week or so, so the sooner one starts with it just as it is becoming aware of this strange world of ours the better it is for the Puppy, What you help teach it in that first couple of weeks to 8 to 9 weeks old will be of great benifit thoughout its life

I personally don't let them go until 7-8 weeks

Since reading this post I have learned of a breeder in SC that sells her puppies at FOUR WEEKS of age!!!!!!! The client is wanting some behavoirs changed (no surprise there) and some obedience.

I was shocked to hear this  but then again he bought the puppy off of craigs list  :(((

If a breeder lets a Client take a Puppy at 4 weeks of age then to me they are incompetent Breeders. Plus the Client could not possiblly have any gurantees given with a Pup at that age because the breeder would not know how the Pup is handled or looked after, It may well go back in its growing and health

 Until a Puppy is capable of knowing and feeding properly then it should not leave 6 weeks is soon enough, 7 weeks is great, I  will be getting a New Pup sometime towards June and i want to see the litter at 5 to 6 weeks old, then a week later i want to go back and pick the pup up if it is suitable at the younger age looked at, If not then i will not purchase it.
