Daryl I have talked to Jiri and he  could not recall any from top of his head. He was in Czech for 1 or 2 litters before he went to Van Den Heuvel K9. He had more breedings in Slovakia that is what I know.
Mambo z Pohanicni straze,
 http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/466041.html
got a raw deal based, in best case, on incomplete information and in worse case on jealousy, innuendos and rumors. The truth is that Mambo was bred in Czech ( and Slovak ) many times and his hips records put him on very top of dogs producing good hips in 2008 and 2009!!!. He has something like 90% of good hips. I will try to get exact numbers but I would like this rumor to end and I am glad that you asked about it.  Mambo also is known for his hardness, drive and excellent structure and ability to reproduce it . I have Mambo's son Quint Hronovsky pramen here and when Jiri was here he kept looking at him all the time and checking him out. Thus I finally asked him what is wrong? And he said: "Nothing, absolutely nothing, this is one of the best dogs I have ever seen. "

By the way his hips look very good at 4 years and are available for viewing. I would say OFA Good.

Daryl, I have noticed this also, But what has me scratching my head is the comments made about some of these breeders he has helped get started that's list was longer when the post was first put up there has been pulled off and his post has been edited twice. I wonder if you were to contact some of these kennels they would feel the same way as Hans feels

Then you get a member asking about Mambo Z Pohranicni Straze, And then I see Hans has written only the good things that Mambo produced.

So, if I purchase a dog from a breeder that brokered that dog through Hans, does that mean I get added to that list?

by Sam Spade on 19 August 2010 - 00:08

Haha! Read my first post on this thread. You're talking to a guy, who's talking to a guy that was not the breeder of a kennel that once was.

Thanks Hans.  The hip thing though.....why do I hear so much bad now, about Mambo producing bad hips in dogs.  I've seen a lot of "fair" ratings out of Mambo offspring in the states, and a few with severe hip dysplasia.  Mine turns two in January and we'll be getting his x rays done to send in to OFA.  Even at his age now, he is a very hard, high drive dog,  We do personal protection type work with him. I couldn't ask for a dog with a better temperament, excellent in protection work, but can be gentle enough when around children that he'll let them hug him and pet him all day long. He absolutely loves children.  When people come over, he approaches them, and is very forward about his approach, but seems to use perfect judgment at the same time.  In protection he is VERY fast to the bad guy in protection, and he hits hard.

Well when he  pimps these dogs off to said clients do we think he would say anything bad about the dogs!

My question is why he took down some of the kennels he so called helped to get started. Sounds a little shady to me. When you read some of his comments it reminds me that I was talking to someone other than him due to hearing the same exact comments from another breeder that knows these Czech lines probably better then him. I don't know if you all read his comments as to him loosing his rights to register dogs with AKC. My Question to you Hans, why was that? Did your paperwork not match the dogs you sold?

by GermanK9lover on 19 August 2010 - 14:08

I had a question too about Xero z Pohranicni Straze too..I have heard to avoid him in pedigrees as well..What do you think about him Hans ?

Ghostly,
why don't you just ask me nicely, rather then call me a pimp. As I have said many times, I am an open book. I am not hiding behind creative  handle names. I publish my website every where here. You may say that I  do it for commercial purposes. But I'll tell you that I do it because people will dismiss my opinions if I will hide behind an fictitious name.
Thus here is the answer.
Most of the edits which i do, are there because I am correcting my grammar and not to change any facts. Sometimes however I do change the info when I:
1.want to be more factually accurate.
2.someone who  I am talking about , asks me to do so.  The second case is apllicable here.  In post above
I have mentioned several breeding programs which I have helped to start by training  and/or by selling to such breeders the best possible dogs.  In the post I have said that many of such breeders are now on their own some with good genetic results and some with not so good results. I knew that it  may upset some and that is why I have on purpose and with deliberation  not specify which one is which. One of the 2 breeders who attacked my statements here and on other forums as bunch of "BS and lies". When I called this person  to point me to the lies this person pointed that kennel name used by me back then was not Alpine Safe but Alpine Safety. The truth of the matter is that I used anything from Alpine Safe to Alpine Safety based on the space available on the rubric after the first name of the dog. If that is a lie then you are rightr;
I lied. The truth is that I am also trying to keep these post short which as you see is not happening here:)
After I pointed to this person that I was ambiguous about who is doing things genetically well and who does not
this person also said that this person does not want people misread my statement and include this person's kennel  mistaknly  in the "not" group. I said OK I will not use your name. I would like to stress that I consider  this person to be a friend.
The second person was a  former student of mine who called me when I was hiking with my dog. This person screech at me of the bat:" This is too much you M. F. F you! F you! F You. I am hiring a  lawyer and sue you for defamation of the character. F you!", and slam of the phone. I have called him back and got same answer. I have always considered this person to be a dear friend of mine and have never understood why this peson all of the sudden hates me. I have tried to convince this person  to "be a man" and tell me what is the problem but this person will not do that. I havce even aplogised to this person for to me unknown infraction. I still care for this person and would help to this person  and "be there for this person" on drop of the hat. So that is why I have removed the names of these two kennels. I do not want to upset my friends.
So there is the story about that.

As far a defending dogs "which I am pimping to said clients" goes, these are the facts. When I am setting a breeding program for someone I always try to select best possible dogs for these people within their price range. Then most importantly I also  MATCH these dogs with breeding partner(s). I consult this in detail with Jiri. I do care for the breed and I do not want my name on crap. Yes then after I do great research on these dogs  I will defend these dogs because I believe (for what ever it's worth) that these are good dogs. Please keep in mind that I do not have to sell crap dogs, there are plenty of good dogs there and we have them.
The PROBLEM often arrives when people start doing their own matching since they think that they can do it just as good as we can if not better and cheaper. More power to them. But if it does not work then do not blame it on the dogs. But most importantly, if you breed  dogs like Mambo to many females regardless of how great dog he is there will be inevitably females and combinations between such male and such female who will produce lesser hips. Someone said
I've seen a lot of "fair" ratings out of Mambo offspring in the states, and a few with severe hip dysplasia.

To that I say show me dog which does produces 100s of pups and does not show some bad hips.
Misconception !:
Keep in mind that "Fair" is fair.
It may be a surprise to you but most fair are   compatible to 0/0, or "a normal" or to "A".And  nobody has problem with
"a normal" right?  People often mistake "a normal", 0/0, or "A"  with OFA Excellent or maybe good. But the fact is "a normal" is same  as OFA's Excellent, Good , Fair is, "Fast normal" (still normal) is borderline and "noch zugelaseen" (still permissible ) is like OFA borderline to mild HD. There are some overlaps stemming from individual perceptions of people who do evaluations, what hips should look like but that is the jest of it.
Thus OFA brakes "a normal" into 3 groups. (excellent, normal, fair) Also OFA does xraying at 2 years "a normal", 0/0 and "A"  is evaluated after 12 months of age!
The fact is that Mambo produced superior hips in 90% or so percents of dogs and was one of the top dogs in hip production in Czech in 2008 and 2009.
I am getting the official document. I'll publish it here as soon as I can.

Let me conclude this with my often by me mentioned pet peeves statement. To breed quality dogs you must do more then put together quality male and female. You need to match / compliment their pedigrees and that is not just as far as hips are concerned but also in many other qualities. For that you need deep knowledge   of genetics of all or most dogs on the pedigree. There are very few people outside of Czech who have such knowledge . I can think of 2 or 3  ....maybe.
