Sock Puppet.. I am not sure of the entire happening , but it was in the late 80's or early 90's she had called us about some DDR males we had for sale. She had told me that she had a dog kennel in the back of her home that house, from what she said  many dogs as she was selling pups from some DDR stock she had. She informed me that she was rebuilding her stock as lightening had struck her kennel and fried all her dogs. She never mention how many or anything of the sort just that she had lost a great  deal of her animals to the lightening strike. I just can't tell you exactly when it was probably early 90's

sock puppet...we agree to disagree and that is fine.  I don't care if this woman posts books, volumes, etc., as long as people respond to her, she gets exactly what she wants....confrontation, negative commentary and upset forum members.  Walk away...

Over and out..CK

Both my dogs are crated ALL night  without food and water.  They have been like that since little pups, and are still not trustworthy, so that is where they will stay at night and when I'm at work, until they've matured and can be trusted.  I only work half days, if I worked full days, I probably wouldn't have a dog.

I have an outside large kennel, but they hate it.  They don't care how big it is, they hate it because it is away from me.  They are much happier in the house.  I don't use the outside kennel for that very reason.

It is not abuse to have a dog in a  kennel for part of the day at all IMO.    They'd have electricuted themselves long ago and probably filled up with carpet, plants, socks and who knows what else if I let them have  free reign.

Dogs are happy when they are near their persons, and like Keith said, these kennels are like their den.  They go into them voluntarily.  I just happen to lock the door when I go to bed.   I alway have something to chew on for them.  My dogs are happy, and bonded very strongly to me.  I really don't think they are abused at all.

Red,

Of course your dogs are not abused sometimes it is wise to use crates, my dogs love their crates but they are not in them unless their is a need. We are talking almost 24/7 in this case and the fact these crates were not cleaned and the dogs lived in their own waste.

Crates are a great tool but can be abused like any tool.

Thank you SP, on that we can agree.  However, I was replying to Michaels comment;

NoCurs, I agree with you 100%, in my opinion if you have to leave your dog crated all day or night then you shouldn't own a dog. I know everyone doesn't agree with us on this point, but I really don't care, I share your feelings about it. Even though it has become acceptable and not viewed as abuse, in my eyes it is animal cruelty plain and simple
Michael

I usually agree with everything he says, but not this point.

Red

I know but I just thought I would put my useless 2 cents in.

RedSable, Yes we do seem to view things the same way as a general rule, I'm sorry we disagree on this point, but it's just personal opinion and I,m just expressing my feelings about it. I guess I should have thought about it more before I posted my comment, what I should have said is that If I had to keep a dog crated all day or night I would opt for not having a dog. In my heart I would feel that I was being cruel to the dog, I guess I'm not very understanding about this subject, I live in a rural area on 8 acres, my dogs never leave the property unless I take them somewhere. I have 32x32 dog yards where my dogs are confined, I also have a fenced 1-1.5 acre area with a pond that serves as an excercise yard for my dogs. I always have two dogs running loose at any given time, so theft is really not a concern for me. Sorry if I offended you or anyone else with my post.                                                                                                                                Michael

Spartshep is correct, because DDR said it herself when she responded to Bob, who said the same thing as Spartshep.
I won't be responding again to any DDR thread. I hope more people do the same.
