belief never has to be proved, thats why it's called belief/faith....

These threads are always about catching the Bible in a lie, not so much defining what makes a belief.

Carlin,
I argue that Christianity has far too many holes in it's story to be creditable, because there are those who tout it as the truth. Does this prove there isn't a creator? No, but it should be enough for those who seek the truth too keep on looking.

My point was why would a god not make it's presence know to all, and not just a few who had a dream or a vision.
Perhaps something current, up to date.
It would certainly be possible and very useful.
If there were gods in the first place.

Felloffher - For me, a disproportionate part of the problem is how "christianity" has defined itself, going back some time. The table was set back then, and that's the context you have been left to address, and the one I am stuck being identified with.

Bee,
It's not about catching the bible in a lie, it's about challenging those who believe to question why they believe. Most of what's in the bible isn't factual and regardless if it was intended to be taken literally, it is taught that way in many Christian circles. It's been 20 years since I last attended church (outside of funerals and weddings), but this was the case when I was young. My family is involved with the Alliance church, not a wacky bunch by any stretch.

Carlin,
Strip everything else away, it's still full of holes.

only belief makes belief and of course the systematic brainwashing and traumatizing of children for being forced to believe by any means that if they don't believe they are going to burn in hell for infinity - that's how you make belief in make believe.

If you are familiar with history, you know what I'm talking about. I understand what you mean by holes. There's no point in going there, as our ontology's differ. Mine allows me to fill them, while yours demands an answer. That, is why I don't start this type of thread.

Many many years ago, I attended a non denominational church and I really liked the people and the pastor. When he did his Sunday sermons he recorded them and gave away cassette tapes as part of his ministry......I got one of these tapes and it was about the flood. Just wanted to share where he thought--believed--all the water came from........anyway he claims once upon a time the earth was totally tropical and it had a canopy over it. He backs this up by saying that tropical leaves have been found frozen in the arctic ice...........Then he says that all this time condensation had been forming on top of this canopy , one day it burst and there ya go--the flood...............I don't know what's true and what's not but I think that very well could have happened............it doesn't exactly go with the Bibical version but oh well....it's better picturing that then the gory pics they want you to see...........
As far as the ark thing--I saw the program where it was supposedly parts of it in the Ural Mountains have been found but the Russian Government wouldn't let them in there. Hund you bring up some very good points about this ark thing................The nice warm fuzzy feeling pics I've seen everything was happy and marching in there 2 x 2.............LOL......we know none of that happened...........
I thought I would share a native perspective on this--offering up our creation story. We all came to Oklahoma from somewhere else. Our somewhere else was Alabama/Miss./southern Tenn, which has to do with my story. Anyway the earth was covered with water. A crawdad came to the surface with globs of mud in his claws. He began to make mountains and vallies, leaving lakes and creeks. Whenhe had everything perfect, he brought up 2 more and made man and woman.
