I'm coming to show dogs for other people, so the politics of exclusion haven't affected me... just my sensibilities.  I feel sorry for all the people who are sure they got a raw deal by being told they weren't welcome if they belonged to another organization.   Meanwhile, if anyone needs a handler, I have classes available except Open Males, 6-9 fe, and 18-24 males.

Until these dogs are worked with the same helper that working dogs are worked the show means nothing. I am not talking about the same person I mean with the same hardness and technique you would use for a working dog test. First and foremost GS are working dogs and should all be held to the same working ability tests.

Wrestleman- what, you mean working dogs can handle being driven more than 3-4 steps, sideways?

Fred, don't feel sorry for us, feel sorry for USA since they are not getting our membership, registration, or entry fees!  I certainly don't feel sorry for myself, it's saving me a lot of money, vacation days, and a trip.

Bob, I agree in part. Some certainly were dead wood and a few that left were simply folks we would have had to rid ourselves of via the disciplinary procedure eventually anyway. Hopefully, those individuals will not be accepted back in, assuming the JA is amended. But, undoubtedly, there were also some valuable members that left, as well. We shall see how things shake out in Reno. I do hope that someone tapes and posts the protection work at the SS.

I think it certainly discouraged and prevented a lot of new members from joining or becoming more active.  I guess if the org doesn't want or doesn't think it needs any new members, they've achieved their goal in that regard.  Many people just getting into GSDs and Schutzhund seemed very confused by it and picked another organization rather than deal with it.  I know a good deal of people who just said screw it, we'll go with DVG.

"Thats okay guys USA needs working dogs not pretty dogs that are coxed on to the sleeve, fondled with a padded stick and ran around a ring while people toot horns and go GOOOLLLLEEEYY what a beautiful flying trot!!!!!!!!!!"

And your experience with show line dogs is?

by TessJ10 on 01 June 2010 - 14:06

"And those that left were more then likely dead wood in the first place..."

Yeah, people like Wallace Payne and Carlos Rojas, to name just two - such dead wood those guys are....

The credo of the German Shepherd is working dog first, however
structure and conformation play a big part in a fine working dog. The
two aspects  are almost never in harmony with one another.
The German shepherd is beautiful and protective. To be an SV judge
you first must recognize the working aspects, but the real pressure that is on you is
the looks.  You have a Bundes and a Klub show to examine both aspects.

Now the Germans, they keep things very tight for quality assurance purposes.
But they can also squeeze out , or reject some very good working dogs from
their chosen gene pool. The Begium and Dutch are much more forgiving of
a dog who can work, like turning 290's in IPO or 390's in NVBK Beglium Ring.

The DMC ( German Malinois Club) has build their bloodline of Lowenfels dogs
Peter Engels Kennel. But this year Peter steped out of the DMC aproved stud dog
list and chose Vite an unapproved stud dog. This has sent sock waves through Germany like
you can not imagine. The one thing with the Germans is you don't brake the rules or
bylaws. But what are they going to do Peter he is an Icon. I see were Peter is going
with this, the German bred Malinois has one major flaw, they can't jump worth a shit.
So Peter went to Vite to correct this flaw  But he broke the rules doing it. To my Knowledge
Vite has not been added to the approved stud list of the DMC.
I hope you don't see this as a rant, rather a insight into the Germans breeding protocol in comparison to other countries.

I think the protection work will be judged more stingently this year.
Fine by me.
