Also add.... other pets. Would they be safe from a COMPETITION dog?

My high drive working line dogs have always made great house dogs, never a problem, including my Tiekerhook dog. My dogs have always had house time. I also kennel my dogs outside, but not because they destroy my house or are somehow dangerous and out of control. I personally don't like the idea of teaching pups and young dogs too many house manners, too much "no this and no that" for my taste. I also believe it's healthier for the dog to have his own place outside. My other animals are and have always been safe, as have my nieces and nephews. High drive has NOTHING to do with temperment and clear headedness.
Maggs you are once again asking the same question regarding children that has been answered for you multiple times. Just because a dog is high drive has nothing to do with whether or not it can be around children. You don't listen - EVER. Obviously you don't even understand the basics including differences between temperment and drive, no wonder you have such a screwed up idea of what these dogs are. If you would just shut your mouth for once in your life and try to learn something instead of pretending you have a clue about the subject people wouldn't get so frustrated with you. Instead you believe this garbage you imagine and then want to argue about your made up crap. Until you act like a normal human being and try to learn instead of living in your weird little fantasy world, it is nothing but an utter waste of time trying to teach you anything.
RPK Getting forgetful? This is exactly why I have asked you to stop addressing me. Your constant tantrums over President Obama are old, no one gives a shit what you think about him, least of all me.

.....riiiight -- like you have something worthwhile to contribute. Thanks, but no thanks, I will listen to the people on the forum who have real knowledge -- not the B.S. you spew.

Not all high prey dogs are great around kids nor small animals, we only have to read the many problems people write to Leerburg about to know that.

I said nothing to Dawn other than relaying my own experience with high drive dogs.
Maggs asks the same question many times, she just keeps asking it because she doesn't like the answer she usually gets.
My friends imported a GSD show line male for resale to a family. Turns out the dog was a true monster. My friends ended up donating the dog to their local police department where he became a stellar patrol k9 for a VERY experienced LEO, but he would never have been safe or appropriate in the home of the average American family. Does this mean all show dogs are like him and also make great police K9s? Does this even mean this particular dog had particularly high drives? Absolutely not, he had very low thresholds and was extremely civil. There are always exceptions to rules. In general, properly trained working line dogs trained in schutzhund are as safe around children and other pets, and are as reliable in a home environment as any other GSD.
As far as Leerburg goes, I don't post there much these days, but as I recall, the majority of people who post there do have working line dogs so I guess it kind of makes sense the majority of questions would be about their own dogs and less questions about other breeds or types since there are less of those owners who belong to that message board.
