VK - why would you even be a part of this?  I was hoping that your first comment would be your first and last..........Seems becoming.........

I was actually talking about the last video you posted.  My weiny dog could do better protection than that............

Rik - I know you and you are the evil advocate..........could you please comment and end this ridiclous thread..........I know that VK has posted alot on all the threads - but is it really necessary to call him out?

If we know it is a black horse - do we really have to talk about it.?  Seems to put one person in a limelight that isn't deserving.

yogie so can explain objectively why you feel the dog fails in protection given the purpose of the test and the fact he was not developed in bite work prior to the test and spare me the off topic rant.

please show me a green dog of yr own equal training etc that is better.

just for my own enlightenment.

do you think you would have walked past/thru that dog then.

do you think you would walk past/thru that dog now.

no off topic rants, just answer the question please.

Well, frankly, now that I've had a chance to look at several of your vids, vk4gsd, I do have a better understanding of where you're coming from...in your environment, pretty is as pretty does, and if it's not utilitarian, there's no point in feeding it--regardless of the species.

With time and effort, I trust you will learn the realities of the breed: there are scarce kennels breeding true 'working line' GSDs in any country; that the majority of what are called 'working line' are more accurately bred to excel in the sport of SchH/IPO, resulting in tweaking of characteristics emphasized; that there are sport-line dogs that are every bit as poorly structured, weak-nerved and shallow-biting as any poorly built showline dog, and the reverse holds true as well.  A gifted trainer can take a dog with mediocre genetics to podium levels, while an inept one will be unable to do so much as ready what should have been a world-class dog for the BH examination.  There is no such thing as a PERFECT dog; you will never find one that completely embodies the breed standard, regardless of how you interpret it, and every dog will have flaws.

Your cur dog certainly earns her feed, and I've no doubt you'll continue to work to ensure that your GSD does likewise. I saw nothing to suggest that he shouldn't be capable of doing so as he matures.

appreciate comment, altho i not really sure what you are saying, you think the dog is not worth feeding??? or the dog is ok?

i really believe the dog has got forward aggression ie big balls for the fight, if am to get anything out of this exchange here sort me out on that one point, but not in riddles. i will even promise to go away with some honest specific answers if only a few ask me to do so (go away) i will do no prob.

separately i know he is an athlete at a level that exceeds MOST gsd's that is not delusion or doubt but fact.

as for the cur (and her pups), she earns me money thru work, in two practical working venues,  she is not bred or used for ppd, but she is nasty. she is an old school working dog that i doubt many gsd living would be capable of doing what she does on a daily basis, i am pretty sure of that.

now yogie.....

I'm saying your dog is still young and immature, but I saw nothing that would suggest he will not mature into a dog that will earn the cost of his feed by his work, even by the harsher standards of measure used in your locale. At the moment, however, I see a young dog that is still somewhat mentally immature, and there's nothing wrong with that--he's of an age for it. Seems confident enough, but it doesn't appear that he's really had to face a decoy who presents a formidable opponent as of yet. He could use more work on targeting his bite, and I only saw him bring some real fight to the decoy with what looked to be the most experienced helper working him, in the April 7 2013 spot labeled "p2'. It's not too hard to find fellows who are willing to put a sleeve on their arm and take a bite from your dog, but that's all those fellows are going to do--you could as easily put a sleeve on a mannequin for the same effect. It is very difficult to teach bitework to a green dog without experienced helpers who know how to read a dog, how to manuever as the dog approaches so they teach the dog how to target, how to pace their stride and the like.

Where are you located in relation to Perth? Are you familiar with Den Gallacher, von Aachen Kennels [not the same Aachen as the Dutch Shepherd breeder in the US]?  I've heard good things about him from the Aussie GSD community over the years. I realize Australia is huge, though, so Perth could just as well be China depending on where you're situated. Still, he has a good name as a helpful fellow to those interested in the breed.

I like the cur bitch a lot precisely because she's nothing fancy--she's clearly tough as nails and all business when it's time to be, but a happy dog in general.

VK4gsd - I wouldnt say your dog in the video wouldnt bite - I just thought it was not structured enough.

I comment on this thread merely because I think it is rude of Rik to post it.

No reason to attack me - but I will post as you wish video of my one of my dogs.   This was taken at training a couple of weeks ago....  just working on my control - cant say it is a perfect -but we are working on it.

yogie, just caught the vid but i had no sound (problem my end), would have like to have heard the bark. nice dog and nice grip.

i had the brainiac idea to do a flip finish with a really long bodied gsd, i so wish i would have done that round the back thing like you did, it has to be more efficient for a longer frame dog?? interested to hear what others think of the types of finish, guessing the round the back one is more popular?

BTW i did not mean to sound like i was attacking you, must be the way i come across, apologies it was not intended.
