I have people try to give me very well bred working line pups and dogs that I turn down so why would I try to adopt a dog?
For the record I was not directing criticism toward Steph. For all I know she may be the best rescuer in the world.
I stand by my statements however.
Of course you have to have screening procedures and rules. I would turn down a bunch of people too. I have just heard case after case of potential great homes being turned down for rediculous reasons. Maybe they are not rediculous reasons to you but they are to me and to a great many people living in rural america.
You guys can disagree or hate what I say all you want but the fact is that something has to change.I am certain what you rescue people do makes you feel good about yourselves but you are not doing a damned thing to fix the problem.
Im just trying to make you guys think. I dont really care if you hate me or not, disagree or just think Im crazy.

Newbie,
What sounded odd was this lady doesn't care about age or papers, and to contact you instead of her.
Now there's all this crap about not supporting bad breeders , BYB, also Craig's list and shelters.
You mentioned this lady has Internet access, that's what sounded odd to me, no one's out to get you.
I would never sell a puppy through a third party, this woman would have to show up in person and pass my test before any sales could be made.
She sounds by your description insincere.
Rescues and shelters are a whole other topic and deserve a thread of their own in my opinion.

She would love a puppy who would not? She has also met my latest to the household which is a retirement placement and likes that she has the ability to offer a home to an adult as well. Not many people would take older dogs from what I have been seeing. She is willing to take a dog culled for lack of drive or other reasons as long as the temperment and health are ok.
Everyone is welcome to their own opinion as always. Pet folks do not always trust themselves to make great selection and do not like to quit on a dog they get and pass along problems to someone else when it does not work out. She is trying to make greater odds to find that right match and help a dog in need. She is not looking for a freebie or to breed or any other suspicious activity.
There are good and bad rescues. I have helped dogs and rescues over the years with both good and bad experiences. I have been turned down adoting a siamese when our last one passed from old age because one of the dogs in the home was unspayed right before the NASS she was shown in. She was the only animal on the property not altered and a different spiecies than I wanted to adopt. When I fostered and retrained dogs for a rescue they sent me one without warning that had a flip switch killer doctor jeckle/ mr hyde complex knew about it and did not warn me. They had been hiding the dog from animal control who were to euth it and I did not know that either until one day an obedient passive dog flipped and tried to savagely murder me beyond just a mere dog bite or attack. I called animal control and found out about the child the dog almost killed and two other attacks on humans from it. The dog was good well behaved and mannerly until that switch flipped. People do not want to experience that when they are a beginner to a breed and possibly accepting an older dog that may have an issue like that. I am not a broker. I will not be getting anything out of this other than helping a dog and owner find a compatable partnership. She asked my help and I agreed to help her.
It seems throughout this whole thread there is not what we are looking for. I will be most likely advising her to purchase a young show breeder culled dog or a puppy as it seems finding a rescue of decent quality or full breed is not available around here and no one wishes to even consider healping her with one that needs a home because the internet has aparently jaded them past considering that the lady just wants a good dog.
Very sad gsd goings on as usual.

I have no issue with you. What I know of you from others is that you are a good person.
You said that you have had the same experience with rescues and shelters in our area that Jen has had and she said it was all bad for the past ten years except for one experience. That is painting a picture of the Chicagoland rescues and shelters with a pretty broad brush.
You also say that you rescue on your own so that you can decide for yourself where that animal ends up, but, then you bash shelters and rescues for doing the same thing?
That is contradictory. It doesn't make sense.
What makes me laugh about people that get turned down at a rescue or shelter is that you can always go somewhere else. In life, you are going to encounter people every day that have different philosophies and morals. Some you will agree with or tolerate, and others, you won't. This is no different for people in shelters and rescues and those looking to adopt.
A general bit of advice not directed at anyone, if you get turned down at a rescue or shelter, get over yourself and go somehwere else. You can even go to the city or county pound and adopt a cat or dog. Most of the time all you have to do is fill out an application and you are approved.
If you get turned down at the pound, you can be pretty sure that there is something wrong with you. Think of it this way, they would rather put that animal to sleep than give it to you!

I have given a dog to a person whose previous dog got killed by a car in front of her home! The dog ren out and happylly went too far...got killed in front of the home in front of the owners kid. Well trained dog, just an accident! no rescue would have worked with her. She has now a GSD mix and she is a very good home.
Shit happens sometimes... One of my dogs got poisoned... died at 15 mos! does it mean that I am not a good home? Does it mean I cant take my dogs for hikes where some moron pours poison?
Rescues are needed and if they decide that a home is not what they want for the dogs...move on. as OBGS said... it is easy to adopt unless you are scary from the first site and you look like you are gonna serve the dog for dinner!
