ALMOST every vet in any place I have ever lived , traveled or consulted with , on pups of mine accross the whole usa tell their clients.....
NEVER feed ole roy products.
I posted the dangers of Menadione two years ago about three times on here.
this is one of the reads but not the one I had..cannot find it.
Phil is correct.

CRYS:
ACTUALLY POTATOE CHIPS WOULD BE BETTER...AT LEAST THEY ARE FROM A POTATO.!
I TELL MY customers..if you want cheap, Ole ROY is the equivalent of go across from my house, gather the alfalfa hay , put in some pine nuts, and a handful of sand and it would be more nutrition than a bowl of OLE ROY>
That is pretty desperate.

Also, that is an interesting hypothesis, about cooked food providing more energy for bigger brains and such. Hmmm. I would really like to see a study with canids - not just comparing kibble to raw, but comparing high quality whole meat cooked vs. the same meat raw.
Another interesting complication: there also exists the panda, evolved from carnivores/omnivores, now eating a very exclusive and limited vegetarian diet.
So what does it mean that my whole family loves sushi and we prefer our beef rare? My husband would pretty much eat everything on the raw side of rare, even chicken and pork.

I would certainly much rather eat my salmon, tuna, mackeral, and oysters raw.........

I just started my youngest, who has a metabolism I would die for, on Orijen. I feed TOTW but I felt like it was hard to keep weight on her. At the the price I'm paying for a bag of Orijen (over $2 a pound) I think I could as easily feed her raw meat I pick up on sale for less per pound. Hell, chicken legs go on sale all the time for 59 cents, ground beef 99 cents/lb!
I have a friend who is now feeding raw, and swears up and down you don't need to supplement it with anything (like the older BARF books suggest), simply raw meat and bones, all kinds. I am not opposed to tossing her some raw meat a few times a week in addition to the Orijen. What is everyone's take on that?

I have been told mixing raw and kibble together is not a good idea but a meal of kibble and a meal of raw would work.
I am now feeding a meal a day raw and a meal a day kibble.

Ace952:
VERY hard question to answer...as I get a lot of free raw meat. and I am a sale watcher.
Also in the play is what state you live in. and what meats are available. Abhay posted his ability to get large quantity from a source I do not have..many of you live near slaughter houses.
We do have a Mexican market here in Tyler and I do not go inside. Maybe I should start.: once I had to have raw liver and it is cheap there. I was the only causcasian person anywhere around. Have not been back as it is in a bad part of town for a single lady to be shopping in.
I would have to drive a long distance, gas price and time, involved to figure a real price...Some of the men who have access to raw deals can figure it out as an approx only.
Many people live rural and have their own raw meats and have chickens too..
Maybe a person in your state can throw out a figure..for sure here in Texas it is lower than some other places.
Also Walmart here , will sell you a whole carton of raw liver, not frozen, freshly packaged , if you ask the market manager, at regular price..I did not try to bargain..
