Prager

Also I would like to say that I am elated  that at least some people felt compelled to say that I am not an idiot. Sometimes I wonder about it.
Thank you.:)

I was  strictly talking about the physical conformation SV standard descriptions, and not character, Prager.  Thus  my statement about a working line dog and a show line dog both "v"ing in conformation and both scores being correct.  The standard is full of "should be's" and approximations, there are ranges with regards to different angulations and bone length, width of chest, height at withers, etc., it's all subject to interpretation and is purposely broad enough to encompass different types which can still be considered correct according to the standard.

I do agree with your 2nd paragraph in your last post, I would only add that as a breeder should strive to breed dogs that can qualify as service dogs so should those same breeders  breed dogs with an eye for national level competition, because I still disagree with your statement about high level trial dogs, they just aren't as high maintenance as all that BUT on the other hand,   I do not feel that a well bred GSD is the dog for everyone, nor do I think people should have one just because they think they are pretty dogs.  I think only those who have an appropriately active lifestyle and only those willing to devote the  time and training these dogs requre, deserve to enjoy the companionship of these fine and  noble beasties.

In many instances you may be right SUENICC. However
I have just seen too many top level competition dogs which could not do much else then to compete in sport.  They were great in  it but otherwise they were what I call social idiots. For example now  ever popular ORRY  was a top wold class sport dog, but a lot of his progeny has hard time to be house broken. I have and have had some of them  here.  They are great at Sport and but have so much drive that they do not care where they shit.  That is what I am talking about. And please take a note that I am not saying ALL OF THEM  but A LOT OF THEM. So please do not tell me that you have one whose eyes will get brown before he does it in the house.

You are a funny guy!  Of course my dogs eyes are already brown silly!

Yes I agree there are extremes, there are always exceptions, but I also know a lot of top level dogs and  on average they really are not the kind of dogs that if given a chance will swing from the chandeliers (at least not if they recieve appropriate exercize    ).  I will concede that they do require someone who is experienced and knows how to handle this type of dog or someone who understands what they are getting into and is willing  to make the commitment  this type of dog requires,

Would I be correct in assuming when you have a prospective puppy or dog purchaser you try to evaluate them and match them with a pup or dog that  will compliment their lifestyle and abilities?

Thanks Hans for all your posts .... I always read what you have to say.   I know that I don't use the correct "terminology" and cannot state my opinions as well as some; I believe that I said basically what you stated about Schutzhund being a "test of abilities" -- I had stated that the "sport" (Schutzhund) would be an indication if the dog has (or doesn't have) "what it takes" to extend into a True Working Dog -- if that is a wrong "opinion" please correct me.

Maggs Please tell us what, if any, first hand experience you have in actual schutzhund training, how many trials you have attended as a spectator, clubs you have belonged to or clubs you have visited as a guest,  that has led you to become well versed enough in the subject of schutzhund to form your opinions about the sport.  Surely one so opinionated has some experience other than reading message boards sitting at a computer screen?

Now turn your thoughts to Obama..................ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!

Sue Please tell us what, if any, first hand experience Obama has in actually running a business, how many votes yay, or nay, in the senate, or did he just a attended as a spectator, organizations did he  belonged to, or businesses did he visit  as a guest that has led him to become well versed in the subject of American politics to form  opinions about our great country.  Surely one so opinionated has some experience other than reading a teleprompter standing at the podium?"

I could'nt resist,

Mystere and Bob have it right, the saying high drive dogs cannot live in the house it total rubbish
I know Dogs who have competed at WUSV level Country level that live in the house it is all about the temperment and how solidly balanced the Dog and how it was bought up,  Plus Dogs also that are of KKL1 & 11 class so they are very good indeed, So they are all round Dogs
As regards as to what is better that is up to the individual, No one can really say etheir way it is personal preferance. I like the Sport side and the Companionship which goes with it, But i certainly do not Poo Hoo the Showline Dogs or the handlers i think they present the Dogs beautifully and they are a credit to them But my love is for the working line

Well, I believe that Hans has it right !!    Hans has indepth knowledge and extensive hands-on experience with GSD's....unlike "some" who have a little bit of knowledge, but "think" they know it all.....the "some" will know EXACTLY to whom I am referring.

I just ask one thing, will those that actually live in the house with their high drive schutzhund dogs comment as to whether or not they make good house companions?   That is only fair.
