Pharaoh It is not an attack it is correcting your miss information. When anyone writes on the board there are people thinking it is true. So the information should be accurate. Why not post the pedigree of this saber tooth dog of your so we can we how much of a East German dog he was ,this may prove what i am writing is true or not. In my book a dog 50% or more of a mixed line is not ddr. If you are not sure that the information your are providing is not 100% to should state this. I think people on here with common sense would be able to determine which post is more knowledgeable.Post correctly and i will not have to correct you.

I have a male gsd dog, did very well in ob, never did the show ring, well I did once but I fell over the dog, long story................he measures in around 34inches..............he would make a perfect stud dog
he has a fantastic temperment, and he does not have a sloped back, fantastic with all animals including children, I think he is what you are looking for

I knew Don Rolansteich and he was about 27" and 105 lbs in early middle age. (I trained with Mark Reed when he ran Schaferhund Express.)
The dog was great, and nowhere near 30".
Mark was quite a bit taller.

Did mark also own Baldo??

by MVF on 10 January 2009 - 04:01
Mark was chased out of Easton, MA in the late 80s by neighbors and took off for the West. Baldo was the last DDR Sgr, as I recall, in 1989. When he was imported, it was by a guy in Indiana whose name I can't recall. I can't say if Mark later acquired Baldo, but I don't think so.
By the way, if you know DDR dogs, you might be interested in knowing I was training in those years a bicolor Bodo Grafental son who was a few years younger than Don, but looked like his littermate. My male was also oversized (almost 27" and 100 pounds).

The reason I ask is a friend of mine had a dog from shaferhunde shepherds and her dog goes back to Baldo.Mendota IL.

MVF thank you for stepping in here.
How fortunate you are to have been around these wonderful dogs that we only see in pictures. I knew tha Don Rolandsteich was a big boy and that his genes produced some very "grob" offspring.
I never met his son David Nebelholz, but I have spoken to several people who knew him, including Don and Evelyn Simon of Rainbow Shepherds. They were so kind as to send me pictures of him.
Did you ever see David in person?
People who had said that my dog Shadow (David grandson) and his mother ( a David daughter) were like clones of David.
1994, Shadow was 13 months old
Shadow's son Boris at 6 weeks
My current Shepherd is 15 months and his father is linebred on Don Rolandsteich www.gsddata.com/gsdinfo/gsd.aspx
and his mother goes to Don Rolandsteich 3 times in 8 generations through grandmother Peddy www.gsddata.com/gsdinfo/gsd.aspx

I claim to know some things and not everything, DDR SDG.
There is absolutely no way Don was 65cm -- that is the height that many "friendly" judges give to oversized dogs, as you must know. He was 27" -- and not leggy .
And he was a very solid 105. Street weight, Don could have been heavier. In his youth, he may have been a 90 lb dog, but I would guess he turned 68 pounds @ 6 months old (well before he was imported, so this is an estimate).
My own Bodo v Grafental son was 27", 99 lbs at a year, 107 @ 7 when he had to be retired. He was 10:8.7, so he was not out of proportion -- just oversized.
I trained with Mark in his last years in Easton, MA. Zoning problems and complaining neighbors forced him to pick up and move. A loss for his students. I have no clue as to why DDR SDG thinks this is a "story" but what difference could it make, anyway? Just looking for a fight?
Fleming does ring a bell. I actually spoke to him by phone in the early 90s. I suppose I am forgetting some things as I have cancer. As I said (just re-read above), I thought the timing of Mark's move (before Baldo was imported) made it unlikely that he took possession of Baldo.
I don't want a fight DDR SDG. Silly conflicts have almost ruined this valuable website. I am not promoting oversized DDR dogs. I am just reporting what I know.
