What a crackup.

I'll bet you feel a lot better now SmartGuy!    Tee he he he he he he he. snicker ROTFLMAO!!!!!

Always consider the comment from whence it came.

You do not need to listen to any CRAP from someone who buys titled dogs and then ..... blah blah blah blah blah..... ad nauseum ad  infinitum.

I do not have a problem with breeders who buy titled dogs and sell the puppies for a living. I just want them to do a good job. A good job for the dogs, the puppies and the buyers.

But, let's not make believe here. Do not compare yourself to someone who starts with a puppy, raises it, trains it not knowing whether it will pass OFA at two years. That is a HUGE risk. You cannot compare someone who is H.O.T. with someone who is NOT.

I especially admire the efforts and courage of those who take these risks, put in the HUGE investment of time and effort, and do well, with their own breeding stock. That is probably where my next puppy will come from.

Smartguy, could you please tell me what you see when you look at your dog. This question was asked of me by my mentor which i gave a reply to.He then gave me his opinion on my own critique,I did not like much of what he said but it is because of his honesty that i went on to own, show, and work the correct dogs i have today. Sometimes the truth hurts, but i would rather have honesty than lies any day. Please,if you want to have the best dogs, you have to open your eyes and look. You did ask for an honest critique, but you are in the wrong place to get that.Only one person here has been 100% honest with you, if you can't take honest critizisem, you will not move on with your dogs or knowledge of the breed.Your replies to a person who has obviously a vast knowledge of the gsd was totally out of order. PLEASE PLEASE OPEN YOUR EYES AND REALLY  SEE,you may well then go on and do well .  liz

Alright...alright.  I haven't posted for months.  Never even logged on after reading a thread Gard had initiated in an attempt to humiliate some posters.  You might recall----"Put up or shut up (callin ya'll out)."  Being just a 'pet' person, I decided enough with the BS.  Add on the televised Oprah special about puppy millers where I watched them euthanize one dog in particular, and....what can I say.....needed a break.

Well....pet person is back....at least on this thread.  As some of you might remember, I have stated I'm a New Yorker. Progressed (sometimes debatable) from American to WG Showlines.  Never mentioned that as a child my grandfather had a couple of dogs that he called GSDs. I never contradicted him, thinking to myself  "He's nuts, they're mutts."  After all.....they didn't resemble our black and tan 'real' GSDs.  Many years later, I came to realize his sable mutts were ALSO GSDs when watching the Hitchcock movie "Saboteur."  The blind man's seeing-eye dog was a clone to those sable mutts.  Did some research.....and, well.....got an education. Anyway...before I get further off track here...I had a pretty good idea as to the identity of Paranshep.  There was that familiar ring when reading his posts.

He critiqued a dog.  It was an opinion.  Probably could have been expressed a wee bit more diplomatically (lol).....but was just an opinion.  Agree or disagree.  No need to attack the man personally.  Yes....if I were him, I might want to rethink those OFA and SV comparisons......but, putting that aside----He does have many fine dogs and has been in the breed quite a few years.  I'm no pushover and take all of you with a grain of salt. Shall we get real here-----Dogs are big AND small business for many that frequent this board.. Let's not forget the hundred discrepancies and outright stupid and ridiculous comments that have spun forth from everyone. I will say this though for Paranshep.  He knows GSDs.  Probably far more than any of the responders on this thread.  No offense intended......JMO.  Take it or leave it.  Like him, hate him.  Your choice...but, give him the respect he is due concerning his knowledge.  Some of you get  carried away and, quite frankly, go too far.  This happens to be one of those times.  Geez, try showing a little class and resist shredding the jugular...huh?  This opinionated (lol), older gentleman STILL gets out there despite his age and battle with cancer.  Now....if you had just spouted off some appropriate retalitory remarks....I wouldn't have butted in.  Some here apparently pm'd and set out for the kill.......no......overkill.  IMO---bad form.

smartguy---I've had many beautiful dogs in my life.  I'm staring at one right now as I'm typing......but he wouldn't be a top winner at any prestigious dogshow.  I can still see his faults of conformation.  Doesn't make him any less in my eyes.  I might not even agree with certain criteria in the standards......it is what it is. Good luck with your dog.

I don't think people had too much of an issue with Paransheps original post  critiquing the dog (other than mentioning his delivery).    I think people started to have a problem with him when in his 2nd and subsequent posts  he made some particularly rude and snotty remarks about the OPs dog, insulted working line dogs, their breeders  and pretty much everyone else who's opinion is different from his.

I appreciate the fact that this person has been in GSDs for many years,  although he has been involved with German high lines for only 8 years.  Perhaps one day he will take the time to learn about working lines so that he can talk intelligently about them too, but I doubt it, not enough money in it.

It's your prerogative to see it that way, sue.  My opinion stands.  To each his own.

"Take it or leave it.  Like him, hate him.  Your choice...but, give him the respect he is due concerning his knowledge."

I believe respect is never given but always earned. I asked for an oppinion bad or good and appreciate that he took the time to give it but I dont care if he was the founder of the breed. I do not take disrespect from anyone and i only give what i am given. His knowledgeable critique went without  notice because he could not give it in a respectful way. I saw a judge tell a guy who worked for 2 years for a BH that his dog would probably never get it because it had zero drive (not in those words) and the man appreciated his honesty. He didnt curse him or go for the kill because it was delivered properly. Im all for honesty but disrepect is not tolerable to me. You are correct in saying it was "Bad form" to bash him so bady and now I feel i over reacted but it got under my skin how rude this man was and Im human. I hope his health gets better as well as his delivery. I appologize.

Smartguy---Just got home and see you're living up to your name. Your feelings are valid to you exclusively which I wholeheartedly respect.  Apologizing even when one is conflicted shows signs of character.  I wish you well.

A lot to read on this thread, I skipped some of it, but I'll go back and read it later.  Heart and brains are important in selecting a dog to breed, as well as pedigree and conformation.  The fact that you intend to get her title before you breed her is commendable.  I don't think she is really breeding-program-broodbitch quality in general by physical examination and her pedigree has some holes in it.  Breeding your bitch, for your own pup to keep--to replace her, or because you and others of your acquaintance love her heart--- is a good enough reason for a breeding if you take her to an exceptional male.  Her feet could be better but they are acceptable, she's a little short legged, her shoulder looks a bit straight, her back is okay, but not optimally strong, her head is acceptable, her eyes I can't determine in the picture, there's something about her croup-tail assembly that isn't right, but it's not terrible, it's at least a long croup, which is one of the common issues you see with workingline GSDs.  She does not really have even one physical feature that is exceptionally good, BUT if she has lots of heart, breeding her expressively for yourself and your associates who want one like her despite her physical shortcomings is okay.  I would say breeding her to produce the best dogs available is not an ambition you should entertain.  If she does not have lots of heart....don't.  Love her as she is and let other bitches with fewer shortcomings carry the torch for the breed.  Wishing you the best in the sport and for your dog that you love.  Veronica

Thanks for your comments Veronica but I am not planning on breeding her any time soon. IF i ever breed her it will be to a proven male only but I have no plans on it at this point in life. I origanaly baught these dogs to breed them but that was when I had ZERO idea of what a responsible breeder is. I have learned so much since then that I have decided that the only way I would breed them is 1) If they are both healthy 2) If they show the proper temperment 3) If I have homes for the pups 4) And if I want a pup to replce them later in life. There are so many variables to just the first requirement that It is impossible to decide at this point. They are both still very young and there is no need to rush. I believe someone asked earlier if I baught them to breed them.... sorry i didnt answer sooner. Im in the middle of moving into a house that I just leased. First one so im very busy
