Langhaar don't answer Honesty they obviously want to send this thread down the road of GSDL v BAGSD cat fight.  Who did what first etc.

This is not about who did what first but who is doing what now and how to do more for the future.

Honesty the past is where we all learn our mistakes from

This issue is much greater than a "cat fight" - perhaps some amongst us are not up to elevating their metality to the levels required to identify, discuss, agree, implement and monitor solutions, Perhaps silence from some would be their very best contribution to this debate.

It should be remembered that the problems we are experiencing within our breed here in the UK, will NOT be solved with a single answer, they will take a series of measures over a period of time. For example the merging of Clubs, some may agree quickly others may take years, changing Show dates in order to facilitate a better spread of shows throughout the year, may need some flexibility, for example a Club may have its show in summer one year, Autumn the next year, Spring the year after, so that most Clubs have an opportunity of having a Show during the summer months. Some Clubs may want a fixed month, for example Bolton may want January, and Essex may want December, and most people may want The GSD League to have their Show in June, perhaps most people may want an ANNUAL DOUBLE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW over one weekend in June/July at a special venue like Weston Park, hosted by the same two Breed Clubs or changed each year, or one Club changing each year for continuity. Maybe we could have 2 or 3 such weekend CH. Show Extravaganza's. Such changes need discussion and agreement and support for them to be successful,

I am not sure how a discussion regarding WUSV membership, working judges and SCH/VPG, has any place on this thread but for information which is reliable and accurate i would suggest interested parties consult the GSDL WB website which is regulary updated on such matters

http://www.gsdleague-workingbranch.com/index.html

This gives details of the UK WUSV Judges registered clubs etc

reason: The GSD Show scene in the UK currently includes the BRITISH SIEGER event, which embraces the principles of the WUSV system, and this year will include Working Dogs classes  for Males & Females , which will require Schutzhund qualifications and a Koerung for each entrant in these classes, A courage test (Schutzdienst) will also be included. In addition there is a growing interest in exhibiting GSD owned and bred  in the UK in shows held in mainland Europe, including the Sieger Shows of Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland , France etc. It is also very likely that Regional WUSV Events (Landessgruppen Shows) will be introduced at some time in the future within the UK.

I hope this brief explanation will help you understand the need for the inclusion of WUSV matters and SchH/VPG matters within this discussion. Progress for our breed here in the UK needs to be "FULLY INCLUSIVE" for it to be meaningful, representative and successful.

I take your point Videx and i agree with the fully inclusive scene i just was concerned that it looked to be staring the classic BAGSD / GSDL battle when i know the two Assoc are trying hard to work together with a common aim particulary the VPG/SCH arms of those organisations

reason: I am genuinely delighted to learn that GSDL & BAGSD are trying hard to work together, and I assure you I would not wish to impede those efforts in any way. I extend my sincere best wishes to all involved. This mutuality of aims, purpose and objectives is exactly the mutual co-operation required throughout our breed clubs and the those involved in any way with our breed here in the UK.

 Owner edit

Dear David

I have been out of the GSD for some sixteen years, just I hope about to come back in, I cannot believe that the same old arguements are still around, the Breed Council was set up to 'champion' the GSD cause with the KC, who in those days where exactly the same.  I cannot believe that whilst (judging by the type shown) the breed may have moved on that there is still the politics involved regarding showing.

CC collectors wil always be around because of the 'Top Breeder in such and such' is award by the likes of Our Dogs or Dog World.  So of couse it is great to be associated with that type of breeder, I was associated with a Breeder who won that title, it did so much for her it was a great feeling and she was or is a great lady.

Coming back to the way they do it in Germany it is better because it is supposedly for the good of the breed, but I can remember the 'head in the sand' attitude of the SV regarding some of the previous Siegers and the traits they introduced to the breed, and in fact if it had not been for the UK breeders, it would have been swept under the proverbial carpet.

Shows need to start and work for regions, I can't get to Bolton up and down in a day if I want to work and look after my own home/dogs.  Similar if I was in the North I could not get down to Kent.  When I showed my maximum was to get up at 5.00am and or no more than 3 hours driving.

Perhaps David you should call together some like minded people to put forward a proposal regarding the way forward for showing and how the CCs are worked and give the Breed Council some proposal to take to the KC and I really liked the idea of Champions Class and also a bit of fun of swopping the handlers as it was exactly the same when I showed. Or maybe there should be a handlers fee included in the show entry and the handlers then draw lots for the dogs they handle!!!!

Having been out of the scene for so long, I would love an opportunity to shape the way forward and at the end of the day The Kennel Club will always register the dogs because they want their registration fee, but why do GSDs need the KC to progress affiliate to the WUSV and work under their umbrella, it was always proposed 16 years ago and still being talked about!!  DO SOMETHING.

Linvac: Welcome back, we need everyone who loves our breed to lift our breed out of the doldrums and decline.

Many exhibitors are patiently waiting for the updated BRITISH SIEGER schedule and entry requirements. I trust they will be published very soon. The success of last years British Sieger may not be repeated if complacency prevails.
