Not sure that is entirely true, Felloffher; geological evidence does
seem to exist for not ONE super-large flood but several, over time.
Hundmutter,
Exactly, there is no evidence of a global flood that covered the earth's surface in water. Most of these flood stories/myths were first documented during the bronze age, but were most likely stories past down from previous generations. It is also thought that the floods mentioned in many cultures were the result of the ice melting at the end of the last ice age. These regional events are a far cry from god wiping out humanity with a deluge of water that covered the entire earths surface.

This is an argument from silence, as much a fallacy as its reciprocal argument. If I so choose, I may subscribe to the historicity of the biblical record in the absence of evidence to the contrary.
Carlin,
You are entitled to believe what ever you want, but there is nothing that supports the idea.

Why does the whole planet have to be submerged to destroy humanity? Think of the small populations that would exist at the time, where they are, and just go for those.
He wasn't pissed off at the animals, so maybe some slipped on by, seeing as it wouldn't matter. As for what would they be eating, lots of fish and sea turtles, still in the sea. And for drinking water, didn't anybody here read "Life of Pi"?

How long did it take the rubble from japan to reach the west coast after the Tsunami?
Floating on a wind blown sea with various currents one would wonder how a craft could remain in basically the same region after floating for any length of time.
And seriously, the water deal just won't fly, none of it.
Yes there have been floods, but far from this biblical scale.
Salt water and fresh water work together to make the oceans function and feed the atmosphere, one cannot exist without the other.
And vk4 makes a point also,
the reason for the Ark in the first place, and why a flood, someone so great, this supreme being couldn't have found a better solution?

Bee,
I can see how man might make this assumption, but surely God would know the difference wouldn't he? Genesis was a verbatim account wasn't it?
17 "Behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish.
19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered.
21 All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind;
22 of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died.

haha, bee just made up a whole lot of stuff to make the story fit, bee are you supposed to add stuff that is not in the bible on gods behalf. Fell then used presumably true quotes from the bible and totally demolished bee's theory, oh my this is too much.
yeah why did not god just will all the beings she didn't like out of existence, lot less dramatic to just uncreate them.
and back to the question of what sins did all the babies and children commit to deserve total genocide via drowning??
anyone???

Didn't they teach you that in Catholic school?
Oh, that's right they didn't.
My wife attended Catholic schools.
You didn't watch the first video did you?
The Earth was filled with violence so it all must go, save the righteous Noah and his um..family, who were all also righteous.

Who says the Old Testament has to be taken literally? There are many instances where it is not meant to be understood in that fashion. Or so I am told.
And besides the upset God felt at the level of depravity man had sunk to, being omnipotent, He knew some point of no return had been met, and the flood was kind of like hitting the reset button during an angry fit. Since He made everything, well, He already told Job, I think it was, what He makes, He can take away.

violence????
has there been one day on this earth without war pre or post flood?? one geek can now take out a whole city from an air conditioned room a 1000 miles away? sounds like we are earning another flood, global warming and sea level rises? get to building yr own ark boys.
some maths for shtal, lets assume according to creationists the earth is around 4000 years old (lol) so mt everest is basically the same height it was in the flood. take that height and subtract it from the radius of the earth's surface now figure out what volume between earths surface and the distance of mt everest fill that volume with water and work out the total mass of the water, add that to the earth mass and get the total mass of the planet at peak flood height.
now using the peak flood mass of the planet and plug into newtons law and calculate the force of the sun/moon gravity on the earth, assume the orbits are circular to get an easy calculation. i can do the math for you but i want shtal to do some work other than provide other peoples you tube clips.
once you calculated the gravitational force earh/sun/moon system at peak flood calculate what effect this has on the earths orbit. i would suggest you will get more than a wobble in the earths orbit around the sun, prolly enough effect on the orbit to shift us out of the habitable zone for terrestrial life which is a very narrow band.
now as the water all departs miracuosly after what how many days that causes a huge change in momentum as the mass changes, another huge variation of the earths orbit in order to conserve momentum. the earth crashes into the sun or has a near miss and shoots out of orbit completely to be a big meteor in outer space, do the maths to verify which scenario. either way i predict all life will be extinguished permanently including the righteous ones.
we could however consider that god suspends all the laws of physics and chemistry for the duration of the flood and hence the above calculation is moot. but if god were to suspend all the laws of the universe for the duration of the flood then why have a flood, why not just uncreate the universe including time and then just re-start it when justice had been served and only the righteous survive to re-populate.
