After he just turned 2 years old , he finaly kind of matured a bit and started to behave and act like a German Shepherd Dog.
He will make it through Sch training, is a general consensus in the club and trials should be happening towards the end of the year, early next year. Now, the story...
He finaly captured his first squirrel last month. Been chasing and obssesing over them ever since he was a puppy. Every day, all day, hundreds, if not thousands of them by now, like McDonalds tagline, billions and billions chased... Finaly - score!
The squirrel was dumb enough to run around atop a 7 foot wooden fence, kinda nonchalantly, nyah, nyah, nyah - I am too high to reach for you... He can clear that from a standing position, no problem.
So, wham, he leaps, hangs in the air like Michael Jordan hang time moment and snatches the poor thing. I heard the squek, came outside and outed him. He spat the squirrel out. Then, it made a mistake of moving again trying to get the fuck out of dodge, so he tagged it again.
By that time I made it to their position, outed him again. Squirell is not moving. Shit, I felt so really bad for the poor thing. The dog is so confused, I got it, I caught it, how is that possible, I have never done that, wtf?
Now, I watch it closely and I see its chest is moving up and down, it is breathing. So, it's alive, I was so relieved. Go crate! The dog gets in the crate and downs.
Now, I can't punish/correct him for anything he has done, he won't get it, he chased them al his life, he outed twice, he downed, he went into the crate.
I get the squirrel with a welders glove, so it won't bite me. The little thing was okay, just hopped up on adrenaline. I take it away from the house and give it a handful of pecans. Now, he is confused. WTF is that, what just happened here? Sniffs the pecans, shovels one in its mouth and it bolts like a lightning to a nearest tree eating it and looking down.
It was early morning time, I get back to the house, get the dog back into the yard then dog gets a frozen beef bone out of the crate to chew on.
Then, I get on with my life and start to get the kid ready for preschool...
Alright, that's the story, I'll save the others for next time when you tap me on the shoulder.

Psycht -- I was wondering what that was about -- double handling, huh. ....and the purpose being? The GSD is highly intelligent, so why would there be a need for double handling to run around the ring? Is that just "something" thought up by the Sports people?
-------------------
If you are a Breeder or Trainer and Dogs are your livelihood, that is one thing. If you are doing Schutzhund as a Hobby / Entertainment that is another thing. For those participating in Schutzhund as a Hobby -- if you become consumed / addicted to your Hobby and make it the focus of your life -- well, I just cannot wrap my head around that; it seems weird to me.
--------------------
Faq -- You believe the GSD should be a "working dog" -- please do not equate a dog performing Schutzhund with a true Working Dog.

Your post sounds so immature and so envious.
