Just Curious, Where the ASL people at - Page 4

I'm not insulting at all but I think something has to be said. We all know the voices who come on here and say all dogs are crap unless they are IPO 3 or every dog is too wussy unless it tries to eat his handler. It gets old. And...VK...I know you are an IPO person and we can go back and look at all your posts if you would like?? Shall we?

I'm just sick and tired of it. And...I am sure I am not alone. I don't owe you or anybody anything. My dog has 8 titles and I LOVE her because she is my pet first. I enjoy training her. I enjoy spending time with her doing lots of different things.

I support GSDCA with a membership. I support USCA with a membership. I try to be supportive to all but I am tired of the lack of reciprocity. And...I am tired of people being too afraid to come on here because of all the assholes. 

I don't care what the hell kind of GSD someone has. Share pictures. Ask questions. I love all of them...
 

Xeph...as you know....winners dog and reserve winners dog...I believe....at GSDCA Nationals were ASL x GSL so the tide is turning! I tried to breed my GWL to an ASL Select Grand Champion but she didn't take.....

Like I have always said....there are good dogs in every line.

Smiley and Xeph ..if you google types of GSDs , most of the articles that come up caution seekers against owning an ASL.

Ha I am not an IPO guy. My dog hunts feral cats for a living. I only support IPO because that IS the only valid source of consistent, provable working stock

Without IPO the breed loses all credibility as a working dog and all the other non IPO working venues degenerate.

I don't do IPO but I have enough brains to know everyone with a decent gsd owes it to those that volunteer to keep the clubs running and get off their asses to go publicly demonstrate their breeding and training.

Funny me an IPO guy, the clubs would not even let me on the field. I failed, no biggie I don't moan and sulk about it, i learn. It was only right I failed, all I did was send my dog recklessly at the helper to kick the helpers ass, I had no business doing that and am just glad I didn't get anyone hurt.

just because IPO didn't work out for me personally doesn't mean I can't figure out what it does for maintaining a minimum standard and best of quality of the breed.

You failed, get over it and show some respect.

Peabo and Johnny are Mailo sons, yes. But the tide isn't really turning. ASL x WGSL breedings aren't new. People act like they are, but they're not.

I just bred Wesson to a WGSL Polish import and I'm hoping she took

Xeph please don't misquote me. Hate to break it to you a herding instinct test is not herding, would you like to discuss actual herding - its kinda my thing.

Lol...VK...thanks for sharing your thoughts. However I, respectfully disagree, as I think IPO is not the only credible "work".

But...I'm not going to play your game. This will be my last comment to you as I don't have the time or energy but feel free to share your experiences. It is ok to have different opinions. Have a good night!

Those that complain that IPO clubs aren't more inviting should volunteer their time at a club to be either a helper or a TD, let me know how much fun you have when you're working dogs that lack drive OR training people that aren't that into it and are just there on Sunday to socialize and maybe get their dog to bite a sleeve. People always forget that TDs and helpers are volunteers, they're there to enjoy their dogs and train just as much as the members who don't participate in other people's training. It really is THEIR choice if they want to work with you or not. A club will go on with or without you. Schutzhund will go on with or without you. It's a joke that someone says "not everyone wants to be a world level competitor" because 99% of clubs don't have world level or even national level competitors, they're just there to have fun and enjoy their day training. Are people prejudiced? Of course, after years or decades of seeing dogs, if we see an ASL or actually ANY dog walk onto the field and lack the drive and interaction in obedience, helpers already have some idea of how the dog will do in protection. Good helpers can bring something out of a dog, but they're not magicians. I can guarantee you that if your dog actually had the ability and showed the drive to do the sport, a helper or TD wouldn't care what lines it comes from and would work with you and your dog as long as you're also putting in the time and effort yourself.

I'm sure that both people with "bad club experiences" on this thread will come on and tell me that their dogs had tons of drive and would've easily titled if not for all the sideline talk. But I highly doubt that...considering most people that have dogs with ample drive fail to title, those that decide to drop out more than likely wouldn't title as well. More than likely you realized how much time and effort is needed to actually title...and it's not just 9-12 on Sunday...and didn't have the dedication to do so. Usually doesn't help when your dog lacks drive and training is much more difficult on top of that.
