I heard they were not being spayed/neutered just adopted out ASAP.

Claims have surfaced of co-owners in Europe for some of the dogs, but CGHS/SPCA President Ron Perez said if that was the case, it ended when Verdeschi agreed to surrender the dogs to the humane society.

“There’s a bunch of charlatans that have popped up claiming ‘We own this one, we own that one,’” he said. “We own all of them. She signed them over to us. If there’s a breach between some interested party and the defendant, that’s between them.”

All of the dogs have been examined, Perez said, and the shelter is in the process of reviewing more than 400 applications for adoption. The shelter gets a fee of $105 for each adoption, regardless of the age or breed of the dog, and Perez said many factors are considered, such as previous pet ownership, living conditions, and whether or not the applicant has kids or other pets. Two dogs were adopted immediately by “people who we knew very well,” Perez said. “They took them right to the vet, they had them examined and bathed.”

I am NOT defending this Dawn person and will not speak to the condition of the dogs or the kennels, but this shelter seems to be of the opinion that anyone who breeds or owns a purebred GSD is a horrible person and doesn't deserve their dogs back, so they are simply ignoring proof of ownership (papers, microchip/tattoo varifications, contracts) and claiming that since Dawn had possession of the dogs and Dawn signed them over, they are now the property of the shelter.

They brought this on THEMSELVES.  They were the ones advertising dogs for adoption less than 24 hours after seizing them and now they are complaining that owners are trying to get them back or they are being flooded with applications.  Anyone who's ever found a lost dog and tried to do the right thing by placing a notice on Craigslist knows that for any lost or available dog you're going to get 50+ quacks wanting that dog or claiming it's theirs.

According to the sources on Facebook, the rightful owners have retained counsel and will be pursuing this further.  Unfortunately in many places the law is unclear, there is no precedent, or no one has really challenged the "possession is nine tenths" concept.  This will probably have to go before a judge.

Oh, I would be a shelter's worst nightmare if my dogs were taken from someone's home WHO DID NOT OWN THEM and neutered, spayed, and adopted out within ONE DAY of my being notified there was a problem. How could she even legally sign them over to SPCA if she didn't own them??? 

Not that my dogs would ever be living somewhere I didn't have good knowledge of their husbandry, but still....I fully believe some of those dogs DO/DID have European co-owners or owners and they have the right to their dogs back! 

And while that house was DISGUSTING, the dogs they were whisking away from outside kennels in the vids looked pretty healthy to me. I agree she needed to be stopped from keeping dogs in those conditions, but if this doesn't raise an eyebrow to some of these "rescues" practices and true agendas ($$$$), I don't know what will. 

I find this whole thing so very sad for the dogs and other owners..It definitely smells like the shelter/rescue whatever it is, has their own agenda and to heck with the owners:(  I really hope the rightful owners can get their dogs back.

Well, it has been said, some other breeders got the dogs, without spay and neuter. Of course there is an agenda there.
    That shelter DOES NOT have the right to adopt them dogs oyt, unless and until their legal owners surrender them.

Maybe I am looking at a different video/pictures, but the place looks terrible to me. The only pictures I saw of a decent kennel was the one that the dogs are now in at the humane society. I surely hope the mess and crates those dogs were living in as shown in the tv station video is not what people on this board consider proper housing for these dogs or any others. I will say that most of the dogs in the video looked pretty good.

There is more to the story than meets the eye.(1) the dogs were brought into the house because of extreme cold.(2) the dogs were left in crates for over 24 hours with no care before being taken from house. 

The police kept them in crates for 24 hours. The shelter placed 10 dogs with 36 hours how can they do that if they were in bad shape. I think the facts need to be reported then people make a judgement

They more this is unfolding, they more I hope that the SPCA's ass gets fried.

There is no way that there is not a hidden agenda. You can't sign away something that isn't legally yours to give. And the arrogance of Perez is mindboggling!
