What Breeds Am I? - Page 4

I think all current spitz type breeds have the curled tail gene still very much dominate. And almost all asian breeds are spitz type. Chow, akita, jindo, pug, pek, chin, shih tzu, Tibetan mastiff, and the list goes on. Many of the spitz breeds of northern europa and canada are or were herding dogs. I think most herding breeds descended from spitz breeds and were later crossed with canines from the equatorial areas. Giving rise to the huge number of breeds we see today.
When i see a GSD i still see evidence of their spitz origins.

The dog in question to me is very shepherd like in body shape and size. But has a smaller more compact head, tighter ears and looks to have a interesting saber tail. He also has some "Harness marking" on the shoulders. Where the elkhound line of though comes into play.
But his coat resembles neither a shepherd, nor an elkhound. Even though it cleat it's a double coat. Just very, very tight and short.
I love his face, he's got really good expression.

What we call sable in the GSD is called agouti in the Siberian. If I knew what boxes had my sled-dog years stuff, I'd post pics of my own agoutis that looked very similar to this pup, but for now ones from the web will have to suffice.  I have no doubt that this pup is a mix, but am sticking with there being a lot more racing-line Sibe in there than GSD.

Yes those sibes do have the same look and shape more then most others offered.  The puppy in the show ring with the person in the blue jacket is a dead ringer. Very close match.

I don't see Australian Cattle Dog proper, but there certainly could be some of the generic 'healer' [sic] of the red or blue variety that are commonly found on the place in farming areas. I always want to ask the people who are advertising these 'healer' dogs whether it's faith healing, laying on of hands, kinesiology, etc.; in truth, these are good little working farm dogs that probably have a blend of cattle dog varieties in them--they can be natural bobtails, or have a normal tail, and a variety of coat types, lengths, densities and coloration.

Wow. Those are beautiful dogs Hexe.  I don't pay too much attention to the husky type dogs (although their blue eyes catch my attention every time), so I had not seen this breed.  

Dragonfly, thanks for the genetics info.  I did not know there was spitz genes in the GSD.  Thank explains why sometimes Rose stands with her tail up and slightly curled (and in my way ).

On the original dog, I too can see the blue healer.  I have a friend with a full blood blue healer with extremely thick under coat.
