Red Sable

I understand, as the GSD is the only breed for me too,  and my dogs have plenty of protection in them, certainly enough for me.   Not to mention great with the kids, as that is of the utmost importance to me also.

bouviers are a very very good breed .. you should have seen some of my firnd's do fench ring !! All breeds have merit for what they were bred for ... that's why there are different breeds ?? Dobeies , rotts , GSDS malinois ... for a few .. THEY ALL HAVE MERIT !!! if you disagbree .. then .. just stick your face in any one of those breeds .. i'm sure you'll make a judgement as to the breeds worhiness.   the initial question .. is foolish at best ... why do we rate things as ' the best ''; i am confident .. a bite from a little terrier will hurt too and a bite from a GSD will hurt just as bad as a rottie !!

I know that I am not going to change a GSD's owner or breeder on the merits of the Bouver and I don;t want to but haveing had both and now I am only with the Bouviers does give me a different prospective. We live in Alaska in the country. I have had bears, moose and wolves that have come onto our property. Since I have gotten into the Bouviers I have not had a single incident becuase they do not tolerate the intrusion. I have seen them actually run off wild critters but when doing so will stop at our boundaries and then just dare the intruder to come back. People who live down the road from us had two GSD's, not good specimens but they were mean and nasty dogs. Spent most of their lives on tie outs. One day my wife was out in the field in front of our house before we got it fenced in with our old male who is just a big teddy bear and these two shepherds got loose. They came into our property and were actually going for my wife when the Bouv got involved. Not only did he send both fleeing but he followed them to thier house, ran them up on the porch then proceeded to mark their steps as dogs will do. Needless to say those two never came back. Now I am not saying soemthing like this would happen with every Bouvier but with ours it would no question. So to say one breed is better at family protection then another is not doing justice to other breeds. Its more about the dog, thier inate instincts and of course their loyalty to their owners. It doesn't hurt either if the dog has good breeding. Just mho
