Sorry to disappoint you deary, but I am heading to Germany tomorrow. Their are several trials going on and I am visiting a few kennels. You will have to get lunch on your own. Have lots of fun and can't wait to see the results. Good luck to all the competitors.
elizabeth, I did look at Dawnmaries dogs..she has a little girl Bobbie who got a VP3..and on her puppies page if you look at Benno, he has a great coat...so her dogs do produce nice coats. Of course as in all litters there will be some that are not perfect in others eyes.
oh and there is Rosie who is a VP1..you must have missed those..
what about haus-barrett who has started there own club for long coats. and they are all the high lines we are all familiar with and using. .i believe that's the way it should be 2 seperate clubs.. and everyone makes money so everyone is happy :))
I know the long coat is a fault but can anyone please tell me why? I can understand that it could be a pain to groom but no more so than a collie I would think. I personally don't want a long coat but it's just personal preference. I only like black longcoats. If a longcoat produces great pups then why not breed it? It's not a fatal or crippling fault. Everyone's dog has a fault. If you're willing to admit it then I have great respect for you. If not, well it's your choice. Noone can force you. My own pup has so so pigment and her confidence could be better. She is getting better so I think that may have just been that the breeder couldn't socialize her much since her mother (the breeder's not the pup's) died and she had to take care of everything. Only time will tell. As for any other faults, well River is only ten weeks so if there are any, they haven't shown up yet but have plenty of time to do it.
Note: In my post, the "less than" symbol shows as "[".Please read it as less than 50% in parenthesis.
Okay that makes sense if the undercoat isn't well formed but what about the ones with a nice full undercoat? Sorry for the questions but curiousity is my most dominant trait.
hi Brandoggy yeah my female Bobbie and the two males Benno and Brando have really nice coats, fuller, nice standard coat.. Bracke, Boss, Bronx, they are tighter coated, Bruno i havent seen him since about 4 months old but he was just in between. Bracke is starting to mature now, and not as scrawny so he doesnt look too too tight like he did but sure wish he had nice fur like Brando or Benno, HOWEVER, Brando has that wavy flippy thing going on down by the croup!!!!!
Rosie is from Yani's second litter, absolutely beautiful girl from her first owners... great coat on her. That litter was some long coats, my litter i didnt have any, but Yani does definately carry long coat gene but the Baru son, my litters sire, does not produce long coats, so we didnt get any... got some nice fur like their mom and dad :)
S.E. Angel,
The ones with undercoats are not true long coats, and do not carry the recessive gene. The term "plush coat" is loosely used to define dogs that have a thicker outer coat. Note that GSD coats appear in a spectrum of thickness from very dry to plush coats. If the dog is double coated, I think he/she should not be banned from breeding. However, I should also mention that I have never seen a dog with and outer coat as long as a true long coat and still have a full undercoat.Have you?
Hope this helps.
No I haven't seen any but have talked to some breeders who claim they have them. After all the information I have gotten here I am starting to think that they only say that to justify breeding those dogs and are just trying to make a buck.
