Let me be blunt. You are ignorant about current shipping regulations. There are already in place regulations that require people to go through an intermediary like PetAir, Gradlyn etc., if they are not already a licensed broker. Yes, it costs money to pay one of these firms. It is done to make certain that ALL regulations and requirements are met PRIOR to someone arriving at an airport with a dog to ship unattended, and see that the dog does not meet the requirements. It is done to make sure the dog has been properly evaluated for shipment so that the dog doesn't die in transit.
Why don't you stop posting crap? I get around the requirement because I ship and receive and I KNOW THE RULES. Do you?
The answer is obvious. There is NOTHING posted here that is valid about any kind of new onerous requirement.
Janessa, ship your dog. This is all crap someone has posted when they don't know what the hell they are talking about.
I just made arrangements to ship a dog this morning.

Thanks to everyone for their research. Hodie, no offense taken.

No offense ever meant. I just think people ought to do their homework (and not just on this issue). The airlines have long preferred and, in some cases, required the use of an intermediary shipper just because people (as evidenced from this thread), don't have a clue about how to go about following the regs and rules. That costs the airline money and it may compromise the good care of the dog.

My puppy is supposed to be shipped to me from Toronto to San Francisco in the beginning of March. The flight is on Air Canada and as of today they still had not received word of this, but when I saw this posted on another forum I became concerned and started making some inquires. Air Canada and United are still shipping pets as usual. Delta (NWA) has stopped and is requiring that dogs are shipped through a customs broker for freight forwarding service. The rep. at Delta cargo actually read me the letter that they got from TSA. I called Continental and they got the letter too & have suspended private shipping of pets, in fact on another forum a breeder states that she got a call from Continental today cancelling 3 booked flights. I tried calling TSA, and they didn't even know about the rule, they transferred me to someone's voice mail box, which I have called back 3 times and still no response. I am not sure if Air Canada will still be shipping when my pup is scheduled to fly or not, in case they won't ship him I am looking into alternatives- but there don't seem to be many. Customs brokers don't seem to want to talk to individuals, just large companies, and the only animal transport company to respond to my emails just sent me a quote that is 3 times the cost of the flight- and this is with our crate, our health cert. drop off at toronto airport and pickup in SFO. If anyone knows of a reasonably priced broker, or a pet transort service who can handle this, please post it here- this is just absurd! Wow- I tried to post this as a reply to the thread about shipping dogs and the TSA regulation and it ended up posting as a new thread- very sorry about that! |
