I am sorry for your loss, I lost a Rottie years back that I think was the food, my Mom's Rottie was very ill and treated in the alt food scare and went on IV fluids. I have a hard time with this issue,  the food we purchase and thinking it is safe.

Diamond dog food, Royal Canin, Canidae,  all that stuff I would not feed to my dogs, I've fed them all in the past, did well for awhile and then they changed ingredients and manufacturing process, for the worse.   Now, too many unstable batches of food, too many cases of food poisoning, too many dogs who eat them and have huge amounts of poop, loose weight and get poor coats.  Not worth it.

My dogs are fed mainly on homemade diets, but I also use Merricks, Evo, Taste of the Wild and mixer diets when time is short.   But it's possible and very easy to make healthy food that both humans and pets can eat, my dogs get fed "table food" all the time LOL

To the original poster, I'm sorry for the loss of your puppy. What a terrible thing to happen! I hope you are able to show some contaminant in the food and that the manufacturer will at the least give you the cost of the puppy's medical treatment. They should pay for a new puppy too.

I'm shaking my head over the quality of dog food these days. What is it with these companies! My dogs eat some kibble (Calif. Natural and Taste of the Wild) and I stick my nose into each bag of food and take a good smell before I feed any of it to them. If it smells off, they don't get it and it goes back to the store along with the receipt. But my dogs eat a lot of meat along with their kibble. Of course, there's the various meat recalls from time to time too. You do what you can and hope for the best, I guess.

Such a sad story, and I really feel bad for you.  You've really gone through alot.  I don't understand why the Vet would send it back to the manufacture?  I would think that they would hide it or lie about the results, not wanting to be accountable for it...as it seems they did.  Why on earth didn't he send it to a private lab?   Such a shame.  Again,  sorry for your loss.

elenih,

I'm sorry for your loss.  It sounds like you did everything possible for your boy.  I do hope the tests come up with something substantial.

Thanks for all the comments - we are proceeding with the lab testing based on recommendations from our vet and the local veterinary university here.
