MI_GSD...I'd like to show the genius that said that one of my worse bite scars, from a chocolate lab.
Hodie, I think you and I could trade stories all day....I am not soft on people who put their dogs before their children or have no sense regarding their interaction. I cannot imagine what goes through the mind of a "parent" (or should I just say DNA donor?) who leaves an infant unattended with a dog. Mandatory sterilization comes to mind, and I'm not talking about the dog.

MI_GSD, I hope you posted right back on that msg. board about that ridiculous statement. I, too, saw the photo of the puppy being carried out: very young (6-8 weeks) and sure didn't look like a pit mix, BUT: a lot of labs have ROTTEN temperments. Like any breed that becomes way too popular, they've been badly bred. There's a lot of super labs in the world but just as many rotten, biting labs, sad to say.
Of course, in this case, I'm with you all: that tiny puppy I bet was playing in silly puppy fashion and wasn't being malicious. That poor baby was probably gone when puppy started. To contemplate that a house full of adults would not hear a tiny baby screaming is just too horrible - I can't even go there.
I also understand euthanizing the puppy: Except in defending it's master's life, if a dog kills a person (esp. an extremely helpless person) that's just the way it's gotta be for a lot of people.

KCzaja,
I am right with you on the mandatory sterilization (of some humans)!

"It was a very young puppy. We don't know what caused the dog to act the way it did, but all indications are that the dog is responsible for the child's death," said Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley.
Of course the dog (puppy) is responsible. Who else would be responsible? The parents? The grandparents?
"We're looking at it as possibly just a tragic accident that occurred. We're not looking to blame anyone or anything like that, but the detectives will investigate this case," said Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley.
Of course not. Why blame any of the adults who should have been taking care of the baby when you have a perfectly good puppy and Pug to blame it on? Case closed. No clogging the court calendar with frivolous cases. No waste of space in jail where they all belong. We can assign responsibilty and blame on a puppy and a Pug and call the case solved and go home. We can even sleep good at night and look at ourselves in the mirror tomorrow morning. Yessireee, bob, we done did a good job here!
This is 2008! Why would anyone have to be held accountable or have to take responsibility for their negligence? Why would anyone have to be held accountable or take responsibility for the death of that baby?
This is 2008! It's someone else's fault. In this case, a pup that's clearly no more than 8 weeks old and an adult Pug.
This is 2008! We can have another baby and get more dogs. After all, this is 2008. Don't blame us. It's not our fault. The dog did it. The dog used to eat my homework, too. Damn dog.

I'm seriously not surprised but still sickened. After all...everything is OK in Oklahoma! It's like white trash is an excuse. If it was a family of well to do, educated folks, we would expect more right? They take parenting classes and hire nannies. But it comes with the territory with the trailer trash. We just cross our fingers and hope for the best? This is really not right! I can't believe they had the balls to print those words.
"It was a very young puppy. We don't know what caused the dog to act the way it did, but all indications are that the dog is responsible for the child's death," said Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley.
I can't even comment, I'm so pissed! Are they fucking serious?
"We're looking at it as possibly just a tragic accident that occurred. We're not looking to blame anyone or anything like that, but the detectives will investigate this case," said Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley.
Yeah, if it was me I'd be in prison already! My own family would send me down the river for being a stupid ass moron. I just don't get the menatilty of the cops? Eh no big deal folks, happens all the time. Psycho 6 week old pups kill children all the time, no fault of the parents. It's totally cool to leave a baby in a swing that daycare providers are not even allowed to have in their use. Truely fine to leave babies alone with 2 dogs on the other side of the house for 2 hours with no monitor or adult supervision. I think I'll just sleep all day tomorrow and my kids can take care of themselves. Possibly I am taking the responsabilty thing a tad too far? When did being a frigging idiot become OK?
by Rainhaus on 31 July 2008 - 04:07
This is just one minute example of what happens that has hit the media. There is a deeper truth to this story. But as usual..it won't be told. Its not about the lab/mix..or the pug.Whether the lab pup was mixed with Sharpei or Pit.Any dog hungry would eat post mortem in a situation like this...or perhaps a very weak child. Two dogs are a pack.If anyone thinks for a moment that this doesnt occur regularly in the USA..YOU are blind.! If anyone wants to stop this SHIT!!! as well as people that foster children for just a paycheck..and lock the kids away..etc etc.....WAKE UP!!! A major root is Meth.GEE, Should I now ask everyone what titles they have on their dogs and what difference they are making...in this drug mess!!!!!I would give my left arm if I could..........................................Candace

From 4Pack: "When did being a frigging idiot become OK?"
4Pack, it became ok to be a frigging idiot a long time ago. It became ok to sit at home and do drugs, drink beer or watch TV until one fell into a stupor a long time ago. Forget personal responsibility. Forget learning more than your 5th grader knows...oh, and forget it anyway because 5th graders and too many of our children are being taught by teachers who should not be teaching. Forget ethics, forget having to earn a living, forget everything! It is ok to be a frigging idiot in this county and sadly, there are many. Anyone who would leave a small baby unattended PERIOD (forget with dogs out) if a friggin' idiot.

Maybe so but the last time I told a cop I didn't know the actual speed limit, he still gave me the damn ticket for exceeding it! My ignorance wasn't an excuse! Oops my foot accidentaly touched the excelorator too hard? Pah, yeah that's gonna fly! Sorry but if one asshole gets away with it the next guy is gonna do it on purpose and "say" it was an accident.
Trust me Hodie, I live and grew up in a HUGE Meth hotbed. We hand out welfare checks to all with a smile. This country needs a overhaul! I grew up without a daddy, I had no guidance, my mom didn't check my report cards and said if I wanted to drink, she'd buy. I could be the poster child for fucked up America but I chose to do better. I held myself accountable, got my ass out of bed and to school on time, did my homework all without anyone nagging me about it and never got into drugs or drinking, even though I grew up with people doing it right in front of me. I don't give a rats ass where people are from or their sad stories, we all have choices and we all make them, right or wrong. I don't fall for that "my mommy and dad where bad people or we were poor". Yea yea, I went to bed hungry some nights too. Does that mean I get a free pass to join a gang and shoot some peeps up? It's all bullshit! A few more generations and nobody will be willing to "do the right thing". We already have more people dragging us down than pulling us up.

I think lots of emails and letters demanding that District Attorney Tim Harris hold every adult member of that household accountable for the death of that child and prosecute fully is in order.
There isn't one of them that isn't responsible. There isn't one that shouldn't be held accountable.
I think it's time to look at and treat this recurring nightmare the way we do voting. In these cases, speak up or shut up.
I called and sent an email and I think everyone who is responsible about supervising kids and dogs together should too. I think it's time to let them know that we don't think that "ignorance" should be allowed to be an excuse anymore and we're tired of the dogs always being "responsible" for the murder. The family that didn't supervise is responsible for the murder.
That's just my 2 cents. The information is there for anyone that wants to voice their opinion. Just make sure you keep it civil and to the point, please. Last thing any of us wants is to seem like the same brand of "ignorants" that killed this child.
FWIW

4-pack, There are no excuses. But I'll bet you a dime to a dollar that someone in your life's path inspired you somehow. Hodie, I agree. But the system is too far gone now.Agree? This started long ago.The teaching system has been gone for decades...in schools. Not to say that there are some great teachers but their hands are tied with the regiment...that they are NOT allowed to teach. The cycle goes on and then teachers could give a shit because they are afraid of losing their jobs. They have become for many years just babysitters...which results in what? Some kids can reach more if they are allowed private schools. But lets face the facts there has to be public schools for the state to recieve funding. How it trickles down I have no idea.Maybe to build more schools...and look so beautiful architechually(sp). In ref to welfare..it is too easy to be found and there are generations that rely upon it..and teach the kids ..This is the way to go.You are fortunate 4-pack.There are so many kids that are not.I am fortunate as well but I am thank ful and lend a hand if I can so a young adult or a child doesnt end up as an idiot.
