I used to be just like you, bashing people and trying to get dirt on them until I actually got to know them and see for myself what these people are about.
The only reason I am back on here is because of the fact that the dog in question lives with a young man that I once had the pleasure to meet, and see first hand how much hard work he puts into these dogs, trust me. I hardly doubt that the dog was out of shape and looked horrible. Many of my friends that were at the show said they knew he was going to be the sieger after his bitework. At almost all the conformation shows that I attend and this young man is at, he is liked by many other groups outside of Mittelwest.
One day you may come in contact with either him or Julie and your opinion about them may change.
If it were your dog and everyone was bashing him, would you reamin quiet or come to his defense.
I am amazed at how many of you are hiding the fact that you cannot keep two males together in your back yard, or two females because they might kill each other? You have an American born sieger, and you cannot be happy for him or your country.
Amazing how many people are perfect, and have never been in a heated argument at work, and just been pissed off the rest of the day.
Ever wonder if that is what happened to this dog?
Maybe the sieger should have been an import. then what?

Yes, at shows and Trials. It does happen and the bitch owner does their best to reduce the amount of exposer. Not during training. Show me a top winning breeder that does training for that.

One aggressive dog in an entire class? All the other stud dogs behaving? People saw it and commented on it, even the owner admits it, so how is that bashing?
I have said REPEATEDLY - get that - REPEATEDLY - that the Mittelwest dogs have a lot of quality. I like a lot of them. Aggressiveness is still not acceptable in the show ring. That is simply a fact. Crap happens, for whatever reason that one dog lost it while the others behaved, let's get back to the main issue, which is the judge seeing the display of bad temperment and IGNORING it, plus rewarding the dog. That's the issue. It doesn't matter WHY the dog was aggressive. Aggressiveness is to be penalized to the point of disqualification. WHY WASN'T THAT DONE? is the question. It doesn't matter WHY the dog did it, oh, there was a bitch in heat, oh, he didn't like the dog behind him, oh, the dog behind him got too close - none of that matters. We know these dogs, yes, they can be territorial and aggressive - the GSD breed does NOT need portrayal at it's largest show as an aggressive, biting breed.

I believe that SchBabe was just trying to make a statement about how her club trains their dogs so that they do not have dog aggression issues at trials. The dogs she works with are mostly working lines. If they can do it with working lines at performance events, show line dogs should be able to be worked in a similar manner.
GoodLife,
You obviously have so little experience with dogs to make a comment like that. I have intact males and females that live in the same house, play in my yard together and are under my control at all times. Four are working line GSD's with a show line female GSD and a male pit bull. They are all well enough trained that I have no issues with them when my female is in heat. The males do not fight with each other and if they are near my female while she is in heat, all I have to do is look at them or make a sound and they are away from her instantly. No fear, they just know their place.
Mittelwest,
It is good to see you here responding and it takes some guts to do so. I did know Titan when he was young and he was a fabulous dog. I am hoping he still is, but, I am also sad to hear about his display of agression at the SS. It reminds me all too much of Albert and what a sweetheart he was when you got him, but, the last time I saw him he was a complete jackass and without reason. I do feel bad for you when I see some of the mudslinging directed towards you because some of it is unfounded garbage, but, we both know that some of what is written (and worse, other things that most do not know about) is true.
It is also true that you do try help a lot of people. I can attest to this personally and have witnessed it many times. You often help people that most others in this game would not bother to take the time with.
What makes most of the people sad here in the Chicagoland area that know you is that you could be the model for how to do things the correct way, but, you choose to do differently. All too often you choose to take the easy way out. Coloring/shampooing dogs, having German judges manipulate (break) tails, allowing your kennel manager to abuse dogs, etc. These are all things that don't have to happen, but, you are behind this stuff happening. For what? The money and fame will still be there if you do it the right way. If you truly loved these dogs the way you profess, you would NOT allow this crap to occur. You have excellent show line dogs, why take the easy way out? Look around you. You had a lot of really good people in your group just a few years ago. A few still exist, but, most are gone. It is sad. You can do so much better!
I, as well as others, are hoping things will change for the better!

How do you know that no one else was acting up, were you in the center of the ring walking hand and hand with judge.
Oh' wait, People saw it and commented on it.
(why because they were jelous, and upset that he won)( and they saw a good story unfolding) I just called around and it seemed as of there could have been other incidents while during the running of the class, but the dogs are moving and the atmosphere is different.
This is what my people saw and commented on it!!!

Not so. I have been at one trial where the bitch owner said NOTHING, had the bitch right near all the dogs, and denied she was in season, despite what appeared to be a bagel attached to her heinie.

by TessJ10 on 10 June 2010 - 23:06
Because Julie herself says so. Julie herself writes:
"I am pleased that the other males in the kennel group did not share the same feelings toward Titan as he had toward them, "
There you go. That answer your question?
