BEEPY I APPLAUD YOU, YOU ARE SO CORRECT,I TOO HAVE MORE THAN ONE BREED(COCKER SPANIEL),THEY BOTH HAVE ALL THE COCKER HEALTH CHECKS REQUIRED,BUT I DO NOT BREED THEM.I HOPE BY HAVING THE HEALTH SCREENING DONE THE DATA WILL HELP THE COCKER BREED AS A WHOLE.THE SAME HAS APPLIED TO MY GSDS WHITHER FOR BREEDING OR NOT. liz

Mr Payne
Correct me if I am wrong, but I feel the word "crusade" smells ever so slightly of sarcasim. Not to worry, I am pretty thick skinned.
You say that what concerns me is almost impossible to resolve. Please tell me what is impossible about Breeders entering details of ill health, deaths on some sort of public database. How can that be impossible? The only problem I can see is that owners "Joe Public" probably don't even know of this Database never mind a health record one, so many dogs would slip through the net, so to speak. But what is to stop all the members on here from giving health details of their dogs. At least that would be a start. The reason it is impossible, is that very few Breeders would give out such details and that is very sad indeed. JMHO

Brady Bee, we should record all our dogs serious health ailments on a database, even if they eventually die of old age.

A database for stud dog use, progeny, health screening and eventually recording of death and cause should be available on a breed council site. It shouldnt be on a database such as this but somewhere that can be organised and governed by the breed in its home country. In the past there was a record compiled by Malcom Willis that showed stud dogs, their progeny breed mean etc this in modern times should be expanded and evolved into a more informative system that can be accessed online by both breeders and Joe Public and should be publicised and breeders should encourage potential puppy purchasers to take a look and learn along the way.

Now i do remember such a database, and have inquired about it in another thread.I recorded every litter ,adult, deaths etc. just a shame it did not reach it's goal. liz

I've not come across one - but I feel there should be one and it should be set up and run by the Breed Council and publicised well so that pet owners as well as breeders and working dog owners can input on it.

Yes, my lovely old boy (died 2002 at 12 years) was plagued with Anal Furunculosis for some years, though it's not why he died. I sent the details to someone/thing at the BC as there had been requests, I think in the BC magazine, for details of AF to be recorded.

The data recording was done by the breed council, i still have some old forms in my files.I think the data is still being collected but do not know what happens with any information gathered. liz

It is of no value to any breeder or owner of GSD to have a database which gives all the reasons for death and disease of all GSD if the names of most the dogs contained on the database were all ANONYMOUS.
I do not call any anonymous person on here scum who DOES NOT attack, in anyway, a known/open person or their family or their dogs. I refer only to those that DO.
Brady Bee although some of your objectives could be very valuable for breeders, I liken them to rather like asking turkey's to vote FOR Christmas.
