perez seems like a cool guy.
i am keeping a list of breeders that think that what happened to these dogs is no big thing and it is somehow the fault of the authorities.
the list will be used against these breeders on it in the future.

GSD39 - just where does it say that if we don't think the ASPCA /
CGHS come out of this too well, we think Dawn got a 'raw deal' ???
SMH.

sitsa; I am afraid I could not with a clear conscience say "I smell a rat''. It might just be the layers of dog waste I'd be smelling.

I think some of our problems as a country is that people, including politicians, are too wishy washy and do not take a stand. So yes; when it comes to protecting the innocent, be it dogs or children , I am black and white.

Yes these dogs needed protecting, i dont think anyone disagrees with that.
What i don't like is the attitude that the SPCA has. If you read all the past postings, they are not being very respectful of people that got their dogs caught in the middle. IMO, show proof of ownership and dive them their dogs.
Unfortunately, that's not what's going to happen. The dog will be held at the SPCA, which will over charge for boarding, and by the time the trial is over, the true owners will not have the $$ to get their dogs out of hock. This is happening all to often now days.
5 dogs were given to "frinds of someone in that SPCA", so rules count for some and not for others? If your a friend, you dont' have to pay?
Another problem I have is that the dogs were in thier crates for 2.5 days! No food, no water, no exersize. IMO, this is just as bad, or worse, as what happend with Dawn "caring" for them.
IMO, Dawn should have been given 24 hours to clean up the mess, and 14 days to get dogs to their owners. The whole time the SPCA cosely monitoring her. Then after 14 days, the remaining dogs should have been surrendered to the SPCA. This would have given the SPCA a chance to find space for them and they would not have stayed in crates for 2.5 days without food and water waiting for a court order. This would have also given a chance for owners to get their dogs back without getting mixed up in the lawsuit. It would have been better for all concerned, especially the dogs.

I don´t get the time frame of 2.5 days...
The home owner called the police " at the weekend ", afterwards:
" The Greene County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant Sunday at the house at 596 Morrison Rd. and began a rescue and investigation into the actions of Verdeschi. "
On Monday the dogs already were out of there ( in my understanding they evacuated the rented house first, afterwards they became aware of more dogs in her DVs house - more and more dogs... )
That´s pretty fast, they needed a search warrant, and they needed places for the dogs...all of this done within one day.
Not SPCA started this, but the local Sheriff´s Office.
Mr Perez, the guy you don´t like, got 39 dogs into his responsibility within hours - no fun. Afterwards he got phone calls all the time, because people called and claimed to be the "owners" of the dogs...I wouldn´t give away one single dog to anybody, too, and I would loudly think about "charlatans", too, in this situation.
He NEVER said, that any owners don´t get their dogs back, he said, that THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH HIM NOW - big difference!
We didn´t hear about one single dog officially "adopted" right now, they just have to stay somewhere.
In a perfect world there would have been people willing to help weeks or months before this desaster happened - but either nobody knew, or nobody cared...
At that day I would have done the same as the police did - get the dogs out of there as fast as possible.

Remember there are some supposed "co-owners", not owners. I doubt there will be too many that have legit paperwork to support these claims. My hope is that all these dogs get loving forever homes where no one else can exploit them to make money including the SPCA, Dawn and her co-owners, or any "placements". Yes, they are from top lines, but believe me there are many, many dogs here in the US and in Europe with the exact same blood lines. It will be up to a Judge to decide this, as a lawyer once told me, what's "right" and what's "legal" are not always the same.

I don't understand why people think a dog who isn't fed for 3 days keeps on shitting in their crates making a big mess.

by Hundmutter on 09 March 2014 - 18:03
Because if they were well-fed up to the point where those 3 days
started, they would go on producing faeces for the first 2 days out
of the 3, @ least. The guts don't stop working instantly. Even
starving dogs who haven't eaten for much more than 3 days produce
some poops for a while, especially where they may have found wood or
plastic or old bone to knaw.
