I am doing the testing, and not having to cut anything out of my plans, and not finding a huge amount of 'at risk' dogs out there to worry about. One way or another it just seems responsible to know what you have.

Bubba's war on everything.
Titles, tests, science, organisations, the police, government....the entire world outside bubba's property line.
I would love to hear bubba's version of how it should be done instead why everything that is done is wrong.

to imply that just because a new dog food might be pushed as 'beneficial'
when that's really code for "Its beneficial to us cos its going to be so
profitable", there is likely to be no value in a research project about any
disease.
Granted there are limitations on studies that are to do with funding; but
there are independent and university-based research projects (maybe
not too many in the States, but then as I tirelessly point out, the US is
not The World) which do exist, are worth supporting, do get some results
on diseases and conditions, and/or the genetics of those. As long as we
are well read-up and sceptical, there is no reason to dismiss support and
results for all research en masse.

Buyer beware, make sure that the dog in question has been permanently identified....I don't know if "the other" lab has the same requirements or not. I do know that OFA is the only registry that offers a public database. I think that's a good thing.

Most tests, Bundishep, are on the "honor system" unless every dog's
results are accompanied by its Tattoo or Microchip number. The DNA
cheek swabs are no different than Xrays in that respect, it so often IS
possible to swap a 'cleared' dog for the one that is supposed to be getting
tested. That is also a "buyer beware" matter and a reason for being a
sceptic - but the majority of people just seem to want what is right for their
dogs and their customers.
@Blitzen - we were thinking & posting along the same lines again .

by duke1965 on 04 October 2015 - 15:10

by Blitzen on 04 October 2015 - 16:10
Why would anyone even think that DM doesn't effect the entire breed?
