Joan, at least every single IPO1 dog will still have to "down out of motion", there is no change, BgH doesn´t say anything, it´s not even BH
IPO 2 retrieve over 1 metre hurdle, IPO 3 retrieve over hurdle and a-frame ( I remember this procedure out of the eighties ).
No changes in IPO3 !
A breeder or handler shouldn´t stop training at IPO1, that´s just the beginning ( but that´s what I am saying for years now, with or without changes ).

Jut because IPO doesnet do things doesnt mean you still can,t train your dogs to do them. Vertical wall, different catch,s, suits ect... can all be trained with the dog. Don,t let the sport change how you train your dog.

Koach, it´s not about the possibility and knowledge to train different, it´s about the way it´s still done with most of the dogs, because it´s fast and easy.
The forced retrieve is the fastest and easiest tool to get a title -
at this point all the breeders who send their dogs to Germany for titles should listen - NO, it´s NO fun for the dog, NO, it´s not uncommon, NO, we do not tend to play unpaid with your dogs for months... and I´m from Germany - there are worse countries without animal laws in Europe.
Joanro, you train your dogs, you know about your dogs, but HOW MANY PEOPLE ON YOUR SIDE OF THE POND REALLY CARE ?
They will buy the cheap IPO1 bitch in an instant, because they don´t care ( and the vast majority doesn´t even care about ANY titles, so there is no real reason to be pissed off because of any European IPO rules changes ).
Some of the members of this board, including you, are the misfits of the American breeding dog system...
Sorry, but, really, over here we WANT TO TRAIN, but we are heavily restricted by law, whereas on your side of the pond people still have every possibility they want to have, but instead of USING their possibilities people are complaining about EUROPEAN rules, although they could do better - but most of the people on your side of the pond choose to do NOTHING.
Doesn´t make sense

Yes, Joan, but that's the past, the present, and will be the future. The quality of a dog doesn't depend on the rules of any scorebook but on the quality of dog and training. There will be no real difference - people either care or not - and the vast majority outside of the "classic" workingdog countries doesn't care, so outside of Europe it will not really matter. Depressing, but reality

This goes back to a very basic tenet i live by. Show me the dog and i,ll read about him latter.

My understanding of the big changes in the IPO1 are being proposed so that people will know that there is a big difference between just having a 1, or going further with titling. This will obviously help the showlines, and those who only want to breed, immensely. The 1 will be easy to achieve and then breed away. For those that think RSV-2000 is the answer to this, I suggest reading their web site. The opinion there is that you shouldn't bother titling a female until you know it is a good puppy producer and good mother. As terrifying as that may sound to some it's common practice in more than a few European countries. As has been stated by Bob and Susie, people that want to train further and test their dogs further will always do so. None of this is going to stop that. For some of you who like to import dogs with a 1 on them and brag about what a great dog you have it may change a bit for you, but, in a good way. Those dogs will be less valuable (and cost less) then they have previously. People who follow the GSD breed diligently will know the difference, just as they do now. The rest, just as they do now, will continue to buy puppies from the best marketers and salespeople.

an educated GSD community is a must! easier rules are not a solution to bad dogs being bred. There must be some type of peer review . Does the Rott breed still offer a ZTP to females without a IPO1? I remember that breed offering a ZTP to females after they had hips certified, Bh, AD, and a show rating of "G" or better. Puts the breeding rights back into the breed's own responcibility not the IPO crowd. I know, I know everyone has seen poor dogs pass the breed survey. What Bob says above '' show me the dog and i will read about it later'' is a good mantra for all lovers of the GSD.
