A lot of the problems on this and ANY forum could be avoided if people would disagree with the person's IDEAS, and not attack the person themselves.
E.g.: I think that way of training sucks, instead of YOU suck!
Or even better, " I've tried that way of training, and it doesn't work, due to A, B and C, so I can't agree with you."
There are ways to have civil, meaningful discussions without bashing each other over the head, and flinging insults.
It's so simple, I feel stupid for even mentioning it....
No need to fart unicorns, just be civil to one another, and avoid personal attacks!

There is an expression in Buddhism that says, "if you depend on sources outside yourself for happiness, you will always ride an emotional rollercoaster". Its true..I have a hard time understanding how people allow their moods to be dictated by others around them, never mind total strangers on some online forum whom they will NEVER meet in person and have ZERO effect on their daily lives.
If you are thin skinned, if you take everything you read that does not agree with you personally or if what someone else thinks bothers you so much, its time to give up being online. Gustav and Zdog nailed this, its over..everyone expects everyone else to behave, to be nice, to speak politely, to never say the F word, well, guess what, it wont happen for a lot of people. I come in here, look at a post that interests me, I read threads, see if I can find something I may be able to learn from and I am gone. Treat this the same way, not like some life or death situation if someone called you a dickhead because as so many of you complained, the ones who KNOW are leaving or have left and its because in part of this desire for everyone to be nice all the time.

LOL............ I guess we really need to understand that the net heralded the end of any hope of living in a polite society. The ones who are offended are to blame? Really?

For Hired, the 3 "R"s of Buddhism
pictured in a more "modern" way
from 2000 years ago...
Thanks to all who agreed.
We shouldn´t stop discussions, but there should be no room for personal attacks.

For Susie, the RELIGIOUS aspect of Buddhism is NOT what most think when speaking of a way of life, for every day people, not monks. Educate yourself in the Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism, read about how our daily lives are an impetus to enlightment. My apologies to anyone who is offended for taking this thread off course. Susie, were you looking for validations and agreements or different opinions, since you thanked those who agreed with you?

Yes, really Blitzen, since you are NOT ever going to change anyone, why would you look outside of yourself for someone to blame when its YOU that got offended? It makes very little difference in my daily life what some stranger thinks of me in here, if they like what I have posted and can benefit in some way, wonderful, if they are offended, they can self examine and see why, but, at the end of the day, I dont lose sleep if person X thinks I am a dick.

Whatever, Hired Dog. Shoot the messenger/s and carry on.

Whatever is a cop out answer expected out of a 7 year old. Thank you for your permission to carry on...

"I dont lose sleep if person X thinks I am a dick"
Especially when "X" doesn't know who you are.
