I can tell in his pictures he was quite the character.  So sorry for your loss Jenn.  But at least he went with love in his heart :)))

What a cool dog, thanks for sharing his story.  Run free, Slim!  I'm so sorry for your loss.

What a beautiful soul - his eyes are very kind. Rest in peace, Slim.

Lyn, he sure was! My best friend (who has had his hands on more dogs than anyone I know) said he had the best personality of any dog he'd ever met, bar none.

LF, the benefit was all mine.

You're all very nice and understanding. I am actually so proud of myself for how well I'm handling it. I don't mean to sound like it's not hard, but I miss him in a "normal" sense, not like with Caleb, that huge, gaping, raw hole. I can barely talk about him privately, still, let alone post pics and talk publicly. But with Slim, it's a relief to me that I never had to make hard decisions, he wasn't sick long (a few hours!), I was spared watching him deteriorate, and it was as good of a death as anyone could wish for. I knew it was coming, so we did all his favorite things and he died being told how much he was loved. It was the natural order of things- we live, we get old, we die, and we leave great memories behind.

Ok, it sounds a lot better than it feels looking at his empty bed right now. Sad Smile

Thanks again, everyone.

That is exactly how I would want any of my animals to pass on - it is never, ever easy, but getting the chance to let them have a happy life and then be there for them as they go peacefully is what I desperately, desperately, want for them all. That Slim was one blessed dog to have had you give him a home.

(Re: Caleb - I always thought the phrase "heart dog" was sort of silly, but when they leave, that is where it hits you. Right in the heart.)

Beautiful tribute that you wrote for Slim.  I loved the photos and you can clearly see the happiness on his face.  What a blessing to have had him as late in life as you did. He was meant to be with you and was very special.  Thank you for sharing.  My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.
