My 3 month old is already fixated on the helper whether it is my boyfriend or another trainer. He watches the man not the sleeve/tug or whatever else.

charger just because they are "police dogs" does not mean they are not equipment trained. While you have some oustanding police K9 trainers I have seen some real losers too. I can watch the dog and tell you rather quickly if he is equipment trained or not. Another thing.. they can be equipment or routine trained in anything, not just bite work.

True DR that is why the Schutzhund pattern drives me nuts! I could train a goat to run the blinds and all the rest, maybe he wouldn't have a full hard grip though...lol

4pack- I want to be there when you enter that goat for its SchH 1. Please give me plenty of advance notice in case I need airline reservations, hotel, extra film/tape etc. :-D

NO prob, Shelly. Just lemme know if you know of any strong, OFA passing, pygmy goats I can look into! =D~

Uh oh. The OFA part could be an issue. ;-D I do remember quite a few pigmy goats on the racetrack that certsinly showed strong courage, hardness and fighting drive, however, and that would easily be able to run the blinds. They chased me down many a shed-row with my tail between my legs. lol

I agree that some police K9 trainers can be real losers as well as others are great. It all depends on the department experience. I tend to think that police dogs may act equipment trained if the helper has a sleeve but since they need to proof for so many events and circumstances, if the dog was a good dog (and not all of them are!) and had many captures and years of experience, then I would disagree in this case with handler helper work being a bad idea. Maybe our definition of "equipment trained" is different as well.

Many dogs will become equipment trained if no form of agiataion is used. A low percent are actually "natural" and do not. I am speaking in overall general terms and of course their are always exceptions. Is training for SAR I took my bitch all over the place to differnet clubs and agility courses, playgrounds, different terrains etc, wanted her to be able to figure out how to get around and not to "expect" things to be the same.

NO. Never if you have done it right.
