i looked all over the net to see if i could find anything similar--either the dog or the artist
& i couldn't find anything.  maybe this is a one of a kind,  maybe commissioned of a
particular dog?  sure is neat though.  :)

To Shandra. I tried rubbing off the signature like you suggested, still no success - maybe we´ll never know...

I don´t care, the money is for dogs who desperately need help, and I´m glad about every bid!

Susie,,Please don't take this the wrong way as this post is directed to everyone who brings something to auction///..

You have mentioned twice that you are not very concerned about the details of the piece you are auctioning off. IMO you have been generous with the details ~~like taking pics and such~ so please do not take this wrong,,..

I do understand what you mean about the priority being about the dogs because it certainly is..However, it is important to those bidding for the piece that they have as much information as possible about it's potential value/history/ as to bid appropriately. ~~Things like signature names are big deals..lol..

The more valuable/rare/interesting the piece being auctioned is the more money it will likely draw in for the cause~~That is just the way it works..:)  I am a collector and I love details. I am always willing to bid more for the right piece..lol..

I would venture to guess that those who are here bidding have given donations in the past and expected nothing in return,,,Actually I know that some here bidding have done so ...:)   PBD memebers are awesome!...

I hope that my post will be taken well because auctions like these could prove to be a really fun way of raising needed funds for causes like this one..

Susie I am glad you thought of it..:)

Ruger1, speaking only for myself, I fully understand where you're coming from...and to expand on that, how badly would everyone be kicking themselves if this nice little piece ends up going for, say, $150USD, and then turns out to be actually worth in the neighborhood of even just $1000 instead?  That would be quite a loss to the point of susie's generosity, Shelley's foster dogs...'cause I'm guessing Reba's already passed that in vet bills herself, let alone the other dogs' expenses accrued so far. Now, sure, we'd like to believe that whoever would have won the item with the $150 bid would, upon learning the true value of the piece, would pony up at least some of the additional worth for the sake of the dogs, but they wouldn't be obligated to do so...

That said, from what I can tell of the photos, it looks like it's a resin piece, where liquid resin is poured into a mold, and the resulting figurine or item is then removed from the mold and bronzed.  Here's something that looks rather similar in both technique and details, even though it's a doorstop.

It might be worth having someone look @ it, susie, before the auction ends on the 6th...

If susie would be so kind as to show us a photo of the bottom of the GSD figurine, that might tell us all we need to know?

Maybe this helps - still wasn´t able to identify the signature!
On the left ear there is missing some color - underneith it´s almost white.
Kind regards,
Susie

1) The signature looks like the first word is Herr (German for Mr.) not Henry. Since Suzie lives in Germany, I would say that's not a surprise. The rest is harder to make out.
2) Since the wear on the ears is showing white, I am guessing this is a plaster cast of an original, therefore not worth a lot of money. It is definitely NOT bronze, or it would not be showing white. I don't think a resin casting would show white like this. Most resins are coloured.

Suzie, can you take it to a pawn shop or someone who specializes in antiques to have it evaluated? I am a fan of the TV show, Pawn Stars, and from watching that, I've learned how hard it can be for even an experieced person to evaluate something like this.

Sun, I don´t think it´s worth a fortune, too.
No pawn shop around here, sorry.

It´s pretty, it´s rare, it´s for Shelley´s rescue dogs.

I forgot to mention: All of you are allowed to donate to this awesome doing rescue team, even if you do not like this statue!

Reba is not responding to the treatment plan we have been following. She will probably have to be admitted to the hospital today.
Fortunately, Rebel, suffering the same pneumonia but with more body mass to begin with, (pictured below, bottom) is improving.
Their medication alone is over $50.00 day.
