I completely feel your pain. I lost my old man in January to this horrible disease. He was fine one day, the next he wasn't. The pain you feel now will never go away but it will become manageable. Even reading your thread I had tears thinking of my Zappa. He is now memorialized in an urn on my mantle, continuing to watch over my family. I'm glad you were with your boy as he passed. You were there for him when he truly needed you the most and he knows he was loved.

I am so sorry, and like so many others on here know exactly the heartache you're feeling, and it will eventually be bearable.  I had to let 2 of my most beloved dogs go to the Bridge just a few months apart, and the day we had the second one put to rest, a huge double rainbow blazed the sky, and it was like the two of them wanted me to know they were OK and together again, waiting for me to join them. I will never forget seeing that beautiful sight. I so dearly miss the two of them.

I too am so, so sorry. I have lived exactly those feelings - silenty screaming 'No' and changing my mind afterwards, knowing it was too late, but also knowing deep down that it would have been wrong anyway. The world having shifted....  I can only wish you the peace that Max has now found.  He will be there waiting, renewed, and you will find the strength to carry on without him until you meet again, knowing that you did the only thing you possibly could for him.
