Wow you are the first person I heard of that said "Stools are very good"

I have been told (time and time again by new owners) Puina puppy chow

is like refried beans "It's better the second time around by most dog"

(meaning most will eat their stools). I all in to recycling but draw the line

on that. I went to raw diet after all the recalls. I figured what the hell it is healithier

then any dog food I could buy and they love it. but what is best I don't have to worry

about medication, drug, blades or anything else.

"What about raw food? Has anyone here tried giving it to their GSD?" (chinito)

With my current dog I have been feeding RAW exclusively. 

I feed ALL raw whole meats. I give a pound of cooked vegetables twice a week (for 5 dogs). I feed 1 lb each of  "bone dust" every morning. This is the by product from the bottom of the meat saws. In spite of the name it is mostly muscle, and looks similar to ground beef. It contains approximately 20% bone meal. At night I feed 1 lb each lamb hearts, pork hearts, lamb livers, beef or lamb tendon with some muscle, chicken quarters or backs, or other meat that seems appropriate. I have given a granulated supplement, but most seem somewhat less palateable than plain meat. I have NOT noticed any reduction in condition after stopping the supplement for 2-3 months. I HAVE noticed a loss of condition in pups that have been sold and switched to kibble. Dogs are not biologically suited to metabolize grains, potatoes, legumes, and fillers. Look to nature. A wild canid consumes whole small animals including the contents of their digestive tract, occasional fruit and vegetative matter, as well as various scavenged carion.  Best Wishes, Jonah

right now.......and i repeat, right now, we are using canidae.  i , seriously,  think we have used and tried just about everything out there as well as feeding raw from time to time.  i am happy with canidae, but do have to drive quite a distance to pick it up since it is not available in our area.  we have found that many of the so-called premium foods are premium in nothing but price; that the results have been quite disappointing.  the old addage:  you get what you pay for, may or maynot hold true in regards to dog food.  in other words, expensive is not necessarily better.  i do plan to stick with canidae as long as the dogs are doing well on it.  they get raw from time to time as well and sometimes some missing link or vertex besides.  we worm dogs a minimum of twice per year or more often if they need it.  i think this is important as well, because it might be easy to blame dogfoods for poor quality coats when the underlying problem is a parasite infestation.

the quest for the perfect dog food has become quite an ordeal the past few years.  nowadays, its not just a matter of finding complete nutrition but also the worry over ingredients that are potentially harmful to the dogs.
