Having owned a Medio I can tell you they are definately a sight hound and yes they can clear even a 6 foot fence if they want to.  I loved her but she was way more than I wanted to deal with on top of the Malinois.

The "bigs" are not ready to go into AKC Misc. yet.....we're still working on numbers with them.

I know some people who are participating in flyball that have dogs believed to be Podengos, one big one little.  They were rescues so it's not for sure but they do look like them.

If I were to get a second breed it would be a Border Collie =)

I saw a podengo at an obedience trial last year, really nice little dog!

Now, if any of you GSD owners in the US midwest reading this want a little dog, there is a nice little papillon being trained in obedience by my daughter right now who needs a home. She lets him play with her GSD and they are just adorable together.

Our breed does not have a rescue problem mainly due to the fact that there are so few in the country and they are all accounted for. We take great care to ensure they only go to the right people.
There are only about 350 Podengo Pequeno's in the country.

Now the Medio has been in the country since the late 1880's. They were brought here by Portuguese hunters. Typically they turn up from time to time in shelters in the north east and in CA where the largest concentrations of Portuguese hunters are.
The registered population of "bigs" in the US is at 120.

There are a number of Pequeno's and Podengos doing Obedience, flyball, lure coursing and Agility nationwide.

This breed is captivating !  They're small dogs: a real dog, not foo foos. Thought I'd share a video from You Tube, that catures their personality and attitude. Andretti is currently being trained by a gal in Texas. His intellegence is amazing. I love to keep track of him progress.
Enjoy.

Andretti came from a breeder in Switzerland that does dancing with dogs throughout Europe with her Podengo Pequeno's. She has several videos on Youtube. I have one of them marked as a favorite if you go to my video link provided earlier in this thread.

Although these are hounds, they are incredibly easy to train.
I did clicker training with 2 of my show champions over a 6 week period for Rally obedience.
1 dog got his title with a first and 2 seconds. My other one got 2 legs that same weekend but I haven't bothered to go back for the 3rd yet.
1 clicker and a cheese stick...that's all you need to train a Podengo Pequeno
