Sock Puppet

by Sock Puppet on 05 June 2010 - 18:06

Hey Hans,

I will have to agree on predisposed as most I have had that had pano were czech imports and a couple came from Jiri kennels. So yes genetically predisposed. I have always been told to cut out the puppy/all stage food at between 4 and 6 months. Once I lowered the protein to an adult kibble the pano resolved on it's own. I would switch these dogs to adult/lower protein. JMO even though I am a sock puppet and do not even own dogs.  LOL

Good luck Keith and Red and sometimes this can last for months and go from one leg to another and back again.

Prager....it seems as if they are deaf. They think meat is expensive, not seeing the amount saved at the vet and not wanting to bother shopping around. They think it is complicated, because people tell them a bunch of wacky recipes. They think it is time consuming, not understanding that handing meat to a dog is seriously quick. Their vets tell them raw biologically appropriate food is bad for them and so do the commercials that promise that love is in the kibble bag.  It's hopeless. But forever they will come on here and whine about allergies, pano, weight, etc etc etc.

Non coated aspirin will disolve quicker and be more effective than coated aspirin which will pass quickly thru the digestive system.  Sorry so long getting back about that...been busy! :-)

I can't and don't believe all a dog needs is some meat thrown to them.    Dogs will go for the stomach on a ruminent first, not the meat portion.  I know, because I've seen it, time and time again.  The stomach contains grasses, obviously, so that must be an important part of their diet, not just meat.  If it was that simple, than we'd all be doing it.

Watch a wolf eat a paunch...he (if you'll pardon the expression) shakes the shit out of it. He doesn't want that part. My own dogs have killed a few too many goats, damn their eyes, and they never eat the stomach at all. They go right for muscle meat.

Seriously?  Because they have eaten my goats too, and go right for the guts, every time.

I had luck with Previcox for pano. I have heard it is easier on them than Rimadyl.  My guy had it in multiple limbs at the same time and quit eating.  The Previcox eased the pain enough so he would eat.  I have also used Ascriptin alot for arthritis in my oder dog, it has never upset her stomach.

LAVK-9,  that was a good link...thanks for posting it.

Everyone...if genetics plays a role in pano does anyone know what lines are most often affected?
